No it is not hot chocolate and is distinctly different from it. It is made from Barley Malt and Cocoa with added vitamins and minerals. It tastes delicious and a lot better than it sounds! I would say it has a slightly creamy subtle taste. I have found, on occasions, that is has helped with eliminating heartburn although I don't drink it for medicinal purposes. I always sleep extra well after a mug at night time. I would say it was a comforting and I only buy the variety which says "add milk". The one made with water is not such a nice drink. Q: It's says Add milk But the jar says add water .. which one is this please ?

There are 2 different types of Ovaltine. The traditional/ original one, as I would call it, says "Add Milk" on the front of the plastic jar. The other type says "Add water" on the front. I suppose this is meant to be a healthier option. However this gives a more watery texture and in my opinion is not so nice! I have in error bought the add water one in the past without checking the front of the jar. So always make sure it says Add Milk on the FRONT of the jar.

I have used all the first consignment the next lot are due on 3rd Dec but they usually have at least 12 months
