Excellent watch, excellent price, and a fine backlight!
I read a lot of reviews and spent time (far more than I should have!) deliberating which G shock to get. I do lot of walking/sporty stuff and want a watch that I wouldn't need to remove for a 4 month trip to Asia. I love the look of analogue/digital watches and the balance of aesthetics and functionality in this watch really won me over. It's important to note that the main gripe people have with this watch (and the thing I was most concerned about) is the LED light that illuminates the face. I NEEDED this watch to be usable in the dark so was prepared to return the watch in the event of the watch being 'unreadable', as some people have described it as being. I cannot emphasise this enough, THE LIGHT IS ABSOLUTELY FINE. I am aware it's all down to personal preference, but I have absolutely no problem reading this watch - both the hands AND the digital screens - in the dark. Yes, it's not optimal - a light behind the screen would be more functional, but if you desperately require that feature you're better off buying the GD-100 or similar full digital G-shock anyway. The benefit of the light on this watch being where it is is that it can actually be used as a torch (albeit a weak one) in a pinch to illuminate a map or whatever you need to see in the dark. Also, remember that this single LED style of illumination is not exclusive to this watch - the £100+ analogue/digital G-shock watches also use this method of illumination. That's just how it is.Seriously - go try this on in a shop and see for yourself. The LED on this watch is BRIGHT and you will have no problem reading the watch in the dark. It also just looks awesome. It's just a makes the watch look really, REALLY cool. So in conclusion - the light is fine, don't let it put you off.The watch is extremely comfortable (I'm wearing it right now!) and not too big - but it's a G-shock, so obviously it's pretty big. Casio have managed to get the perfect balance of weight. It's sturdy and weighty enough that it doesn't feel cheap or plasticy, yet it's absolutely NOT what you would describe as a 'heavy' watch - indeed it is very light weight.Really can't say enough good things about this watch. At £55 (this watch is £110 on the high street!!) this watch is an absolute steal. Comes in a beautiful G-shock tin to boot. Absolutely brilliant, feature-full and practical watch. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Perfect For Active Adventure
As per the previous review, it's incredibly difficult to rate this watch any lower than 5 stars, providing that you buy it for the right reasons!I've owned the watch for a few weeks now and absolutely love it; the watch is sturdy, very, very well protected and looks the business. I bought this watch on a recommendation from my older brother because I wanted a watch that could withstand the elements when I go hiking and mountaineering, and also that I could wear when I go out on my mountain bike and to use in a pool abroad or the sea, etc. I own other watches that are fantastic and have claimed to be waterproof, but wanted something rugged and reliable and that wouldn't break or falter at the first bit of exposure to something more than a shower. The G-Shock brand has a fine reputation for this and does not disappoint. Couple the fact that it has some fantastic featues - I mean the stopwatch, alarm and timer are all handy tools when you're wanting a sports type watch, but the fact that you can set a second time (called World Time or WT) and at the press of two buttons simultaneously switch between the two is pretty cool. I recently took my watch with me to Ibiza and it was incredibly handy seeing at a glance what time it was back home. You can set up to 4 alarms at once which is handy if you need reminding of certain things, and also turn on or off a beeper to inform you when the hour passes. As someone else has said, the illumination light isn;t incredible, you can make out the time at close inspection but it isn't as good as it could be. But for me, that is literally it's only flaw.If you're looking for a rugged watch, one that will take a knock and shake it off with a laugh, I would suggest you invest!

G-Shock
I bought this sporty-looking heavy duty watch in hopes of using it at work. When you work in construction sites, you want something comfortable, light and robust to rezist the rough work conditions. This watch is just what I was looking for. I can easily see the time in dark site areas with the help of the led light button and can safely say it really is impact rezistant as it has had a few impacts with...... and tools. I love that it is not magnetic because ove had incidents before where my watch got stuck to metal beams, but not with the G-shock. I've yet to test the waterproof feature, but I'm sure if you were to accidentally hop in the shower with it on, it would be just fine. It is a very well built watch, sturdy and heavy-duty, yet very comfortable. It fits extremely well on the wrist and the blue-black color combo gives it an exquisite look. I enjoy wearing this watch outside of work as well because it triples as an alarm clock, a stopwatch and a timer. In addition to these features, if you've got family living in different time zones and find it inconvenient calculating the time differences, this watch will help u see the times in different areas. Would highly recommend!

Poorer in low light levels.
Decided to go for a G-Shock watch after the numerous reviews rating them highly. There's no doubt its a great watch and great features however, it should be noted that if you are a slightly older person, I am now in my sixties, who, as nature tends to show, has slightly poorer vision or a glasses wearer, it's not the easiest watch to read in lower light levels. Yes it has a light but to my eyes, with the design, it makes very little difference. One of the reasons is that the design, and its one of the reasons I chose this watch, was the red hour hand. It looks great but again in poorer light and even using the light, it's difficult to read. So beware. Great looking watch, great build quality, great functions but due to the problem mentioned above I would caution others in the same boat as me.
