Corel WordPerfect Office X8 Standard Edition for PC

Anyone who has used WordPerfect knows that it is SO much easier to use than Word. While Word is our standard word processing at the college I am a professor at, I purchased my own copy of WordPerfect (with our IT department's permission) simply because there are so many things I can do easily with WordPerfect that take five or six steps in Word. Also, WordPerfect doesn't try to outguess what I want to do as Word does. Word drives me crazy automatically formatting outline, etc. I use WordPerfect to create exams because the outline and "keep togehther" features are so much easier to do. I use Word because I can move items to/from other MS-applications easily but when it comes to word processing you just can't beat WordPerfect.

I distrust Microsoft. In the late 1990's, a co-worker and I watched network traffic between the company's computers and what we found out later to be Microsoft servers. This was over the old dial-up, metered connections. As a consequence, I've been looking for a solid replacement office suite for some time.I have been using LibreOffice/OpenOffice and this has been a difficult transition. I like the WordPerfect, having had used it when it required a keyboard overlay; however, it's been a long time since I used it and I'm not used to the control it gives the user over LibreOffice and Microsoft Office.This single biggest complaint I have with this product is that it is marginally compatible with Microsoft Office, which everybody seems to use. For example, I have several forms created in MS .doc format and have tried to work on them through WordPerfect; however, every single time I open the document, the formatting has changed. In one instance, I sent a form to one of my clients and the bullet list had changed to money signs. That's highly unacceptable and sent the wrong message.I've since recreated the form in WordPerfect's proprietary format, .wpd, and it looks fine. I'll most likely have to either convert it to PDF and hope that the client doesn't need to make changes, or work with it on LibreOffice.This would be an easy decision if all software worked well together; but, they don't. I've had to keep LibreOffice installed to work with the .doc and .docx files; this has lead me to question why I have both of them installed. I have been dealing with LibreOffice's shortcomings for awhile and I can, at the very least, work on the MS-formatted documents and know that they will work, most of the time.The rest of the office suite is working well and I have not had a problem with Quattro Pro at all.

Unfortunately the DVD disc received had a critical file missing, Corel sent me a download with the critical file inserted. For some reason there has been ongoing problems with the word-processing package on Corel Office 8, necessitating many contacts with one of the Corel Technicians.I have been successful, via using another part of the programme, to be able opening the word-perfect, word-processing programme, which was the major reason for changing to Corel WordPerfect.As most people would be aware you can no longer purchase Microsoft Office you have to rent the programme, there is little assistance with eliminating errors in Microsoft Office Outlook programme that has regularly ceased to open, also the problem wipes you Addresses. One one occasion Microsoft technicians had control of my computer whilst they tried to remedy the problem. A fortnight later the programme again crashed deleting all my contacts. Fortunately I had copied my contacts to an ExcelI am very pleased with the assistance of Corel technicians trying to solve the problem, the other programmes within Corel Office all work without a problem, since I used the download provided by Corel. I cannot fault the endeavours of the Corel technicians who are trying to solve this minor problem. I have no doubt that the people assisting me, will continue to assist, and they will be successful.Even with this problem I will rate Corel Office 8 ahead of Microsoft Office.

My Word Perfect Suite 8 (about a 1997 version) had finally quick working properly and I needed something that could open all of those files that I was using in my business. I had been using this suite since about 1998 and had utilized a number of templates that came with it as well as designing forms and spreadsheets of my own that I am still using today. The thought of not being able to open all of my current files as well as the lost data, the learning of new software and the weeks, if not months, of work to create all new forms and spreadsheets was terrifying. I tried a trial version of this Word Perfect Office X8 to see if it would work for me and it came through perfectly. What a relief.
