Best drawing salve on the market.
I had been despairing that I couldn't find ichthammol ointment anywhere or the ones I did find were ridiculously expensive (or from China - which is garbage I regret buying). But I found this salve, bought it, used it and am absolutely happy with my purchase. I am going to buy more to stock up. This stuff is amazing and is essential in any first aid kit for dressing wounds, keep them from getting infected or draw infection out if they get that way. Irksome subject, skin infections, but when you have one, ichthammol is your first line of defense. I hope this review helps, though it is not intended to be construed as a diagnosis in anyway, shape or form and should you find yourself injured, see your doctor immediately. This review is for informational purposes only.

Great stuff!
I grew up with this stuff and am glad it’s still available. As a kid it was just called either drawing salve or black salve.I always have some in my first aid kit and on a recent visit from my daughter and granddaughter the GD got a pretty nasty deep sliver from the railing at the beach. Used the ichthammol (liberally) on a bandaid and overnight it’d drawn it out far enough that it was an easy pull the rest of the way. They keep it in their first aid kit now, too.

It actually worked for ingrown hair!
So this is gross, but my husband had an ingrown hair stuck in his neck for a LONG time. I honestly don’t even know how long. It was driving both of us crazy, so I searched for home remedies besides just stabbing at it and hoping for the best. I found info on some homesteading page to use this ointment, so I put it on him and covered it with a bandage for two days and after that... it came right to the surface of the skin and was easy to remove. It was disgustingly satisfying.I won’t post any pictures for others sake. But it worked. Trust me.

Not what I expected and smells AWFUL!
I ordered this stuff to attempt to find an antibiotic ointment with no artificial derivatives, as most have petrolatum in them, only to find out this one has it too anyways! AND, on top of all that, it looks and smells absolutely disgusting! Unfortunately, I opened it too late after ordering it to be able to return it, but I most assuredly would not buy this stuff again nor would I recommend it to others. I am willing to bet other products have comparable results without the foul stench and appearance of this one...

Didn’t work on ingrown hair
Bought this for use on an ingrown hair but after a week of using as instructed, it made zero difference. Didn’t help draw out the ingrown hair. The ointment smells and looks like tar.

Hard to find
Was having a hard time finding this in my local pharmacies, but was able to pick it up online. This is the only thing that works when I get rid of raised and painful boils.
