Q: I want to give the package of plant some as a Christmas gift. Will they live for a while in their packaging?

I would not recommend leaving the plants in their packaging. They need to breathe as they are "air" plants, and you will need to give them a refreshing drink.

Q: It is beginning to get very cold where i live. Will these ship well even if temperatures get below freezing at night?

Mine all arrived dead in 20 degree weather - part of the issue is that UPS does not have heated trucks, and sometimes they sit in the truck overnight.

Q: Can you put the air plants in with other live plants in a terriums?

After extensive research on the proper care of air plants, I've learned that they do best in the open air. Constant moisture from a terrarium will cause the plants to rot and die. Setting them off singularly, or in groups with other air plants, in an open display that gets bright, indirect light is the best option for these plants to thrive. Also, in terms of watering your air plants, spritzing and/or misting is not a great option since it can cause moisture build up which causes rot. Each week, or more frequently if the conditions are particularly dry, I submerge my plants in room temperature rain water (or tap water that's been left out for several outs for the chlorine and other chemicals to leach out) for several hours and, while they're submerged, I spritz the water with fertilizer. You can't overwater with this method since Tillandsia only absorb as much water as they need. You then need to place them on paper towels and ensure they're completely drying before placing them back in their displays. It's a bit of a hassle but it's worth it. Hope this helps!

Q: How do I plant these indoors? Should I use a fertizlier, soil or rocks?

No soil required. You can place them in some type of planter with rocks if you like, or you can get creative. I placed a couple on top of wooden log candle holders and others in some of the glass hanging balls. There is a fertilizer and mister you can buy to help them thrive. I don’t know if you can, but I personally wouldn’t use regular commercial plant fertilizer on them, nothing like miracle grow.
