Excellent, comprehensive and lucid textbook for undergraduates. Asian edition is softcover and paper quality could be improved.
This is an Asian edition (by Pearson) of an excellent textbook. Relative to the U.S. edition, the chapters are reproduced exactly, but the Asian Edition is softcover and, further, the quality of the paper is not up to snuff, which is a real demerit for a hefty book of almost 900 pages. The U.S. edition of the book (by Prentice-Hall), which I also own, is hardcover and of outstanding quality in all respects. That said, this book has an almost encyclopedic coverage of the most important concepts for practicing chemical engineers. There are many numerical examples throughout the book, and the book's website contains some very useful material (e.g., spreadsheets) that are valuable for demonstrating the methodology for implementing some quite complex thermodynamic methods.Professors Elliott and Lira are to be congratulated for providing a very thoughtful and well-written textbook that should provide a solid foundation for one of the most important pillars of the chemical engineering profession. Thermodynamics is not for the faint of heart and a serious study of this book should demystify many of the concepts that often cause confusion, at least at the undergraduate level.Practicing engineers, especially those that use process simulators, will welcome the clear exposition of the concepts and underlying algorithms for all the major methods and procedures, especially for hydrocarbon systems (equations of state) and chemical systems (activity coefficients). The sections on reaction equilibria, simultaneous phase and chemical equilibria, and electrolyte mixture thermodynamics are also very well written and offer much useful advice and valuable insights.

Pretty decent textbook
I really liked the explanations in this text. I found it helpful and insightful. Some of the concepts are hard to grasp at first, but the text does a good job of explaining it. Lots of examples for a harder topic to master. Granted, I did take the class with one of the authors, so that may have helped in understanding the material. The extra content is very helpful, spreadsheets for calculations and such.

It's okay. Won't make you jump out of your seat or anything. But, it's okay.
This book is good and has a minimal number of errors. The only thing about it is that there is so much material included and is such a dense, dry read. Kept putting me to sleep not even halfway through the various chapters. Would recommend though.

Only confusing and has poor formatting.
The book makes no effort to actually teach the material. It seems like the authors just wanted to flaunt their knowledge. Example problems are usually incomplete or vague. On the e-book you can't zoom into the page, only change the text size. This makes it easy to lose your place. Diagrams and equations also don't load correctly. You also don't get page numbers. Ultimately this is more confusing than helpful when learning the material.

This is a great book
I have read several thermodynamics' books and this one is by far the most easy to comprehend. The authors make it a point to emphasize even what you should intuitively know long after you have forgotten how to perform certain calculations, which is a remarkable touch to the book. Good enough to even sit down to read and enjoy on a Sunday evening. No kidding.

Good Book
Great description on the condition and it had a very good delivery time. I am a satisfied customer and student. It is very easy to read compared to some other textbooks I have read.

May be missing some of the homework problems...
If you're in America and need a textbook, you'll need to know that this one differs slightly, and does not have all the practice questions, nor unit review questions as the yellow hardback book. However, I've noticed that even though it's missing some of the questions, there are a few that are out of order.

Very exciting read. The author really wants the reader ...
Very exciting read. The author really wants the reader to feel the pain that is perpetuated in the writing, and that exactly what happens.
