Charming and great fun to read out loud.
We bought this series for our daughter when she was little. She loved the bear's dramatics, and the mouse was so fun. If you don't want to put energy into reading out loud, this is not your book. Vamoose! Begone! Years ago, we gave our original to a family member's child. We had to replace it for our library, even though my daughter is now sixteen. That means this is a great book. We also picked up the other books in the series that came out later.

I love this book!
The small, gray-eyed mouse shows that persistence pays off as he works to turn curmudgeonly old bear into a dear friend. I loved reading the book to my daughter when she was a child and purchased this copy to share with my Godson. I cannot wait to read it to him and hope he loves mouse and bear as much as we do!!! (I had a special voice for the line “…and there was the mouse!”). :)

Friend for Bear child’s book
This has been a favorite children’s book of mine to gift to others since I heard it on NPR radio years ago being reviewed and read aloud. This was a birthday present for a three year-old and she loved it.!

Family friendly, great message.
A favorite for my kids, plus I enjoy reading it! The illustrations support the story and emotional expression of the characters really well. Plus the quality of the book is nice, and thicker than a typical paperback. Would highly recommend adding to any kid’s collection.

Sweet book
I love this story about a grumpy bear and a mouse who won't be deterred from a grumpy bear! All is well at the end. So sweet

a book you can enjoy with your kid
I got this book for my son when he was 3 and a half, and it was an instant hit with him. Now, half a year later, it is still one of his favourites. The story has a warm message; the illustratons are pretty and sometimes laughing-out-loud funny (those facial expressions!); the text is not hard to understand yet it definitely added new terms to his vocabulary ("vamoose", "begone", or his favourite: "for good measure"). The pictures and the interesting word choices also make this book enjoyable for parents - something that can be quite important when you have to read a book for the nth time for your child.

Our class loved this book!
Do you like books about friendship? If you answered yes, then you should read A Visitor for Bear. Bear didn't want any visitors at first. He even put up a sign that said, "NO visitors allowed!" Mouse kept sneaking in and hiding in different places in Bear's house. At the end, they became friends. We liked the happy ending, and there were some funny parts. It was fun to get to read this book together in our classroom. Some people even clapped at the end! We give this book 5 stars. We can't wait to read the other books in this series!
