Incredible performance!
The price/performance ratio of this radio is astonishing. The firmware that it comes with is great, but there is better firmware out there if like me, you like to try out the options. I'm using mine with an MLA30+ Active Loop Antenna, but you can still pick up quite a bit with just the included telescoping whip antenna.

Excellent Receiver and price
This TEF6686 receiver is surprisingly powerful for the price. I have been happy with its reception, especially when attaching a loop antenna for shortwave. FM reception is exceptional. The receiver uses the previous version of the NXP 6686 chip (TEF6686HN) but my understanding is that the new TEF6686HAN chip is only slightly more sensitive. The newer receivers tend to have two instead of three knobs (though that doesn’t guarantee it has the newer chip). The newer receivers are also more expensive. The receiver’s firmware can be updated using the usb-c to usb cable connected to a computer. Instructions are available in YouTube videos. Note that this receiver’s boot button, required to update the firmware, is the Reset button easily accessible on the side of the receiver instead of reaching it through the headphone jack as it is for other similar receivers. The updated firmware adds additional functionality and should improve the receiver over time. Neither chip supports SSB reception. One complaint—the SMA female jack where one attaches an antenna is attached to the receiver using a nut. When you screw on an antenna or cable to the SMA jack, the jack loosens and rotates which could damage the jack. I added a lock washer to better secure the jack (take care not to push the jack into the receiver housing when you remove the nut and add the washer). Newer receivers seem to attach the SMA jack differently which is probably to avoid this issue.Lastly, there are cheaper versions of this receiver but they usually ship directly from China. This one, at least when I purchased it, ships from Amazon directly.

Not worth it!!
I purchased this radio, and it came with he older software version 1.15. I was expecting 1.18 (yes, big difference and improvements). The top antenna connection nut (to the radio) always came loose. I Could have fixed it myself, but this should not happen out of the box on a $100 radio. I had to keep screwing down the nut to hold the SMA connection to the radio.Cute little radio. It worked fine, but the older software and fiddling with the SMA secure nut had irritated me, and I figured it was best to send it back. The TEF6686 DSP is a champ.

The radio would not switch to lower bands
I would not waste my money on it No instructions of any kind was unable to switch to lower bands ..

SDR receiver
Fair sensitivity, good display, audio quality. But remember it doesn't have a lot of bandwidth filtering, so strong adjacent signals may be heard.

Not the best -look elsewhere
This radio was advertised as being a high performance radio. It is not. This must have the older chip in it. ( running 1.15 firmware ) Performance on FM was not even ordinary in my location. SW and MW not good either, with lots of noise from the LCD screen. I also own the second generation radio, running 1.18. That radio performs much, much better, but I thought having this radio as a back up, because it's cheaper would be similar in performance. I was wrong. Get the latest model, that is more expensive. I have returned this one for refund.

Worth every penny
I feel this radio is worth every penny, when hooked up to a outside antenna it will amaze you. Love the long battery life ,and with the touchscreen you can zip up and the shortwave and amateur bands with ease.

Little practical use
It looks neat and easy to use, but almost useless except FM band…:-(
