Excellent survey of contemporary Abstract Artists

A thin book (95 pages) that offers signposts along the path of Abstract Art. Disappointingly, only 1 or 2 color plates for each mentioned artist, but the evolution is clear enough, as we trace the images of Turner Monet and Cezanne through Picasso and the Russian Constructivists into the Hard-Edge school. It all followed the work of the Expressionists, brought about because manufacturing paint that came in tubes meant that paintings could be done in Nature: where the sky isn't really blue, clouds not really white, trees not really green, and water almost every color you can imagine. Already, it wasn't just about images, no matter how well-painted (but about things, like sensations, feelings and ideas.)The interesting part was the 1930's, 40's and 50's, when artists tried to figure it out as they really began to explore this Universe with new eyes. There are some better-known painters left out, but I was surprised to find Pierre Soulages, Antoni Tapies and others who are NOT among the "usuals" like Rothko, Stella, Kline, de Kooning, Newman and Pollock.For a thin book of only 95 pages it does a pretty good job, but bear in mind there's much more that you'll just have to find all on your own! These books are great, particularly when you have several from the set. For the price, they’re a good option to elevate your decor. Simple but effective

I haven't read it yet, but looked over it and I like what I see. I love abstract ever since I accidentally created a painting like that and I been doing it ever since. I love art and want to learn more and read more about it.
