Know your use
I'm giving this 5 stars even though it did not suit my needs. I put these on my Surly ECR. The tire is high quality and durable. There is a lot of ground contact with the tread, the face of the tread is nearly flat and is nearly the width of the tire. You get a lot of ground contact per square inch. Hence, this is not a rolling resistance winner. If you have room for only more narrow tires but wish to ride trail or gravel, I think a great option. It is quieter than most after break in. It does really well on ice also. Seems to have a lot of protection from punctures. If you are riding a mix of trail, gravel and pavement, the tire is noticeably slow on pavement. I bought this in 2.25" width, wanting something faster to keep up with my carbon road bike friends, and my stock 3" 29-plus sized Surly Knards are faster than these (Knards are also much noisier on pavement). All in all a very good tire but it is not for my riding needs and what my bike is capable of. I will just use it in the winter for riding on icy roads. HOWEVER, if I had a bike frame that only accommodated narrower tire widths, i.e., I had a road bike that I wanted to ride on trail, this might be my go to tire.

Decent tire
Couldn't put anything bigger than a 2.2 width on the back of my bike. Maxxis tires run a little smaller than most , so was able to go with the 2.30 (actually 2.20). Decent tire with grippy tread. Not great on loose sand, which makes up some parts of Florida trails, but great on everything else.

and so far I like them a lot
I bought a pair of these to put on a hardtail mountain bike that is mostly ridden on paved and gravel trails, but I do ride it on some easy/beginner dirt trails. Given the tread pattern I hoped that they would be a fast rolling design on hard surfaces that didn't require bunches of traction. The center tread is a little deeper (taller) than I thought it would be, but a little wear will bring it down. I have put a couple of hundred miles on these, and so far I like them a lot. The stair stepped center tread rolls well on hard/paved surfaces but also has decent traction on hard packed dirt. I have these set up tubeless and they only require adding air every week of two. They look like they are going to wear well. After a couple of hundred miles I can see no wear. These are working very well for my intended purpose. I would definitly recommend.

Love these Crossmark II tires
Have worn out these Crossmarks on several occasions. Fast and quiet tires that work best on paved to mildly rocky trails. NOT for downhill or hard core large rock trails.

I love them
I love this tires. We do long distance endurance and competition MTB on very combined surfaces. Hard pack, loose over hard, and eventually some asphalt. These are fast tires on all of these terrains. They offer good cornerning grip, low rolling resistance too.Only downside is on wet terrain, they offer acceptable perfomance only. But this is due to their design and need to be fast on the first mentioned conditions. As we ride in mainly dry conditions this is not an issue for us.

Maxxis Crossmark
These tires have always held up great in casual riding to races on sandy trails and rocky mountainous trails. I have been riding this tire as my back tire for years.. pair this up with some Stans tire sealant and that is a perfect match.
