Legit novel use (electric oven broiler smoke trap)?
I bought this fiberglass fire blanket for a novel use, and it appears to be performing as I hoped. So, every Monday I broil (grill) a chicken breast for the week's lunches (I brush each side with 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil, and season with freshly ground black pepper, and sea salt). With my previous oven I ignored the instruction to leave the oven door open, which led to the door glass being thoroughly browned, BUT I had no issue with choking smoke, as this was being retained within the oven. Now, with my smart looking new True-convection* Samsung oven, I didn't want to end up with the brown door glass, so have been leaving the door ajar by the instructed margin (a few inches), which is saving the glass, but I suspect is not at all good for my lungs, as the small amount of smoke that is produced gets deep into the lungs, and is causing me to cough quite a bit. In the summer I can open the windows, but if there isn't much of a breeze, this doesn't resolve the issue entirely. So, I thought; is there someway I can safely trap the smoke from the grill, and this fiberglass blanket appears to be just the ticket, as it can easily handle the high temperatures, and appears to be trapping a sufficient amount of the smoke (I can see a little browning after a single use, on one edge in particular). With it folded once, the 39" x 39" blanket is just wide enough to hang over either side of the oven, with enough material to trap the smoke (using a saucepan on top, to hold it in place). It likely has a bonus effect as for the first time I've seen, the broil element was powering down, as the blanket is trapping more heat in the oven, so less electricity is used. Also, I was concerned there might be a plastic burning smell, but I had no such issue.* A note on my Samsung True-convection oven; so I was hoping the convection baking would mean I wouldn't have to switch two baking trays of cookies several times, to ensure even baking (as with my previous non-convection oven), but the bottoms of my peanut butter cookies ended up being burned in the bottom tray. I believe the reason for this is the hidden baking element is at the base of the oven, and is causing excess heat to reach the bottom tray. I solved this by placing my stainless steel broil pan on the very bottom shelf, after the oven is pre-heated to the desired temperature, and have the baking trays somewhat higher than the middle two positions.

Must Have- it works!
We had an unfortunate situation where a paper towel roll got set on top of a burner. I had company over when it caught on fire.Paper towels burn fast and bright. The flames were moving to the cupboards and oil containers.Immediately, instinctively, and without hesitation I was able to cover the fire with this blanket. My guests were in awe.It was so easy, I didn’t even have to think.I then was able to take it outside in the blanket. The clean up was easy and this saved my kitchen. We have a fire extinguisher but this was the best option for such a small fire. You cannot reuse after a fire but honestly worth it to buy another one.I had this for 3 years before I used it but it came in handy when needed.

Super easy to use and it puts the fire out quickly!
We bought this in 2020, in case of emergencies. Today is July 4, 2025, and we finally had a reason to use it. A neighbor's firework lit another neighbor's yard on fire. The grass and bushes were dry and the fire got big quickly. Many people ran to put it out, others called 911. Some people threw buckets of water on the fire, but that didn't make much of a difference. My husband grabbed our fire blanket, ran over, and put it out. He said it was amazing how quickly the fire was extinguished with the blanket. All the neighbors asked what brand of fire blanket it is. The fire department said good job when they arrived. We are buying several more of these.

This is a product that you can't rate until there's an emergency.
Appears and feels like good quality. Can only comment on effectiveness if there's a fire emergency. Hope I don't have a "test case". ;)

A fire retardant most could benfit from
This is a one meter square piece of fiberglass folded in a protective sleeve. It puts out fires when removed from the package and used to cover the fire to cut off its access to oxygen. That's how a lot of fire extinghishers work, and this is just a different mechanism. That said, I like that it doesn't involve spraying foam or some-such on the stove, that it will work on grease and oil fires which aren't really amendable to water, and that I can keep it in its package near the stove so I absolutely know where it is and can access it immediatley if necessary. They last essentially a lifetime if not used so that gives me peace of mind as I believe spray extinguishers have a limited effective life. Overall this blanket is an elegant solution to the fire extinshishing problem and one well suited to the home amateur fire fighter just trying to keep a small fire from getting out of control, particularly on stove tops or grills where the fire is easily accessible. (Its likely prudent to have the more traditional spray extinshishers for other types of fires.) This type of blanket comes in different sizes and I've seen them at 1.5M square which is about 5 feet on a side. A square meter I believe is adequate for most fires on a stovetop which is the intended target of these blankets. Given these are not expensive and are convenient to use and store, they seem like an obvious precaution everyone should take.

Helped contain a fire
Bought this a couple of years ago and had to use it today! A cleaning rag soaked in rubbing alcohol caught on fire and also caught a roll of paper towels on fire. Threw it all on the floor and threw this blanket on top of it, helped contain the fire. It didn't completely suffocate the fire, the paper towels burned for a few minutes under the blanket but it definitely helped contain it and the heat. Easy to deploy and gave us time to think and get our fire extinguisher.
