It’s a powerhouse of a machine.
I just Received my machine today and have already started to use it. This machine is a workhorse! It has seen through several layers of fleece with ease. It is not loud. It sews so smoothly! Best purchase so far!

Great for sewing garment weight leather
I bought this machine specifically to work on a leather jacket. Some of the seams were too thick and heavy for my regular machine to handle, which I found out the hard way. After viewing several lists of best heavy duty machines, I went with this model. So far, it has performed like a champ, easily punching through all but one seam—and to be fair to it, this seam was very thick and stiffened with leather glue.I recommend the Janome HD to anyone looking for an affordable machine capable of sewing garment weight leather.

Solid sewing machine!
I purchased this heavy duty sewing machine to make dog collars, machine sews beautifully! I love the fact that it’s a simple machine that sews amazing. It came with a hard case cover to protect it while not in use. The quality can’t be beat at this price. The black color is impressive.

Lasted 4 months
This machine worked great for 4 months and then the hand wheel seized up and won’t turn. I took it in and the technician oiled it and sent me on my way but the same thing happened immediately. Under the Janome warranty only the dealer you purchased it from can repair or replace or refund you and because I bought it on Amazon, I have to mail it to Oklahoma. I did mail it to World Weidner who was the Amazon seller and they said there was nothing wrong with it and sent it back saying that maybe it’s my power outlet not getting enough power to the machine and causing the motor to overheat. Will update when I get the machine back. I am not hopeful .I thought Janome had a good reputation and the machine would last at least a year. Unfortunately not.

Heavy duty. HD-5000BE
I liked that it was packaged well. Plastic covering was torn off most of the heavy duty box. Items inside mostly okay. Quilt equipment box not secure and open . Everything, seems okay. Only major complaint is pkg. Of needles not labeled by sizes included. Or any knowledge of where to purchase other sizes of needles from microfiber to leather needles. Better photos of the instructions for threading the black machine . The motor sounds more powerful, different pitch to the sound compared to my 5 year old Sears Kenmore machine. 6 fewer speciality stitches but the majority of the ones I use. Presser foot feet are not labeled either. You need to show top and side view photos too. Not impressed with the light, needs to be an LED , brighter and needs light on both sides of the needle. A light shinning down from the arm or motor side of the needle towards the needle/presser foot/sewing area. Also, needed are 1/4" markings out from the needle to the right for at least 3" if not 4". Cannot comment on other parts , like the ease of use of the button hole attachment, only had the machine less than 24 hours. Basically, easy to use and smooth operation. Would like to have the speed control like on my Kenmore. Prefer a dial control over the slide buttons for width and stitch length. They are stiff and hard to move/change. I do like the wider back lever, but it too is stiff. Not complicated. Updated: 8/30/24, not impressed as I was. It is definitely NOT HEAVY-DUTY. will not go through 4 layers of denim, even with a #19 leather needle. Threads always breaking , both top and bottom. Skipping stitches. Takes 2 1/2 hours to hem two pairs of blue jeans. On my Kenmore I can do 6-8 pairs of jeans in that time. It stalls out, if you stop to aline your garment to stitch more, you have to turn the knob to get it going each time. And it doesn't have a side to side adjustment for the needle position. The dial for the stitch style change is difficult to turn, does not dial smoothly. The bobbin winder is hidden inside where you cannot watch as you fill nor does it automatically stop when the bobbin is full. This HB-5000BE DOES NOT LIVE UP TO IT'S ADVERTISED HYPE!. Needle package provided does not tell you which size or type of needle is included in the package provided nor where to get the additional needles. I have been using my home sewing machine needles I use on my Kenmore. But they seem to still be to long. I thought I was getting a good sturdy machine. Very sad., now. 9 06/24, the bobbin winder has now quit working. Always had trouble getting it in place to start winding. Now it won't even engage. I have a business, Alterations, but now I can't even use this piece of foreign JUNK! I Now will have to find a repairman, since I cannot contact Janome through this App. No way to contact them. No email address. No chat room, no phone number. Sorry I couldn't buy another Sears sewing machine. At least it didn't break down/not work easily from the beginning. I need a reliable sewing machine. Not a piece of JUNKBRING THE MAKING OF YOUR MACHINES TO AMERICA. AMERICAN MADE ONLY.

Great and sturdy machine, easy to set stitches and to thread!
All my other machines in the last 20 years have been mostly if not all plastic and they lose their stitch setting or the bobbin area gets off track and I lose everything I was working on and have to sit for hours trying to fix the machine or take out the messed up stitching. This is soo sturdy and a nice combo of metal and plastic parts and the plastic is in the not important areas! It may be a tad heavier the. The plastic machines but that is also a plus to me allowing g me to go faster knowing my stitches will not slip.

Great for sewing gear
I use this sewing machine mostly for bags, gear, etc. I used to own a Brother but it would break needles and wouldn't lift the foot high enough for me to squeeze bulky materials through. This Janome is brilliant and does everything I need. 100% BIFL.
