It was a tough decision to choose between 5mm or 3mm as the 5mm is more expensive. I purchased a longer length of 3mm and will use multiple strands side by side for my application.This size was surprisingly bright at how much light was transmitted.

Purchased to use along with 4 LED 1.5 W head sold by the same company.Rayauto 3mm 1 to 4 light source head 12V 1.5W APP Bluetooth WIFI Phone Control RGB Atmosphere LED Light Source Engine illuminator For Side Glow Optic FiberI found this product to be very inconsistent. So far, I've only been able to get a 6' section to light up evenly, using an LED at both ends. Most of the wire is only transmitting light for about a foot before it can no longer be seen. No amount of sanding or polishing the wire ends has made any sort of improvement on the light transmission. Perhaps my expectations were a little high, but my real frustration has been with the inconsistency of the product.
