Works great
We love this softener. Better functionality and easier to program than the other older one we had.

Fits Kenmore plumbing
If you're replacing a Kenmore this is great. Mine old one was over 10 years old. I kept the old bypass valve in place and this one just plugged right in. No changes to the pipes.Works fine so far.

ZERO STARS - DO NOT PURCHASE
NO WARRANTY - Kenmore representatives will argue any failure of the unit and will not assist with fixing it. My unit is 1 month old and I had to pay someone to come troubleshoot it and the rep at Kenmore told me the well and water softener company I contacted was not qualified because of his assessment. They will say that about ANY company you call and use. It's a sham, scan and Kenmore should be out of business for treating customers the way they do. Poor quality is what Kenmore is peddling for once a name brand that was top in the appliance field. Don't waste your time and money an anything Kenmore.

Great product, TERRIBLE assembly instructions
Nice, compact, easy to program. The instructions were TERRIBLE. The QR code right in the box sends you to a video which isn't even specific to this model. It has segments to connect things which this model doesn't have and excludes CRITICAL steps needs for this specific model.Recommendations for a good experience:1) Expect that you will need two 1" x 1" flexes. They're at Lowe's in the WATER SOFTENER SECTION. You won't find them in the regular plumbing sections.2) The video neglects to show that the hood can be detached and moved slightly (but not removed entirely as there are wires attached), which gives better access to the parts you need to attach.3) FIRST, attach the bypass valve to the back of the unit The video doesn't show that, and doing it later sucks. THEN attach the flexes to the bypass valve and LAST attach the flexes to your plumbing.4) The video omits entirely that apparently you need to cut the drain hose into two pieces and manually attach it to the drain fixture under the hood. I didn't know that and the drain sprayed everywhere when I ran it. Only when looking for the source of that leak did I find the drain fixture and realize you have to attach a hose to it.Read these instructions before the video, then watch the whole video several times before you start, see where these instructions fill in the gaps, and you'll enjoy this product.

Simple and cost effective
This water softener was a replacement for an older model that had stopped working. The original one was the same make and model and lasted a good ten years. I just know the new one will outlive me! It uses salt pellets and not much is required. It softens the water effectively without using excessive amounts sof salt. It's pretty much feed it some salt and then forget it until the little amber light indicates it wants to be fed again.

Easy replacement for my older Kenmore
This was an easy replacement for my 2008 series 300. The bypass valve is slightly different on the new one so I continue to use the old one to minimize re-piping. The new recharging system uses a longer brine fill and brine empty cycle than before but so far so good. Many of the wear parts are the same as the older unit - O-rings, valve disc, valve housing so repairs, if needed, will be as before. The display board has been updated to provide for more options however does not appear to be improved to protect against saltwater fume corrosion -- one of the reasons I needed to replace my older unit. The rectangular exterior shape has a slightly different footprint and lid opening is a bit smaller for adding salt but not a big deal. I have been using a similar design Kenmore water softener for over 40 years and will expect this new design to provide a similar service life and good quality softened water.
