Essential reading for zazen practice
Very good book on Dogen’s very challenging writing about zen practice. Also read Kosho Uchiyama’s book “Opening the Hand of Thought” and any book by Shohaku Okumura. If these things float your boat, highly recommend.

Deceptive Double Duplication
This is an interesting and useful translation and commentary on Dogen Zenji's Bendowa, which provides extensive commentary for Dogen's reasons of why one should practice shikantaza (just sitting), but not Dogen's instructions for the practice as the title "Zazen Meditation Handbook" suggests. I recommendDogen's Fukanzazengi for specific instructions such as is explicated beautifully in Philippe Coupey's "Zen Simply Sitting" (2006). The other deception is that this edition is an exact reprint of "The Wholehearted Way" (1997) with a new title and no reference to the original publication date. Old wine in new bottles. Shame on you Tuttle!!! ~Seiso
