Victorinox Swiss Army – HistoryMaster Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland in 1884. Seven years later, in 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife. After the death of his mother in 1909, Karl Elsener introduced the brand name Victoria and the iconic Cross and Shield emblem is registered as a trademark. With the advent of stainless steel, Karl Elsener coined the company’s name, Victorinox, by combining his mother’s name with “inox”, an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, “inoxydable”. After World War II, the “Original Swiss Army Knife” began its successful progression around the world and enjoyed exceptional popularity. In 1989, Victorinox entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name “Swiss Army”. Ten years later, Victorinox joined the Travel Gear market, partnering with TRG Group in St. Louis. And in 2001, Victorinox fashion was introduced in the US to further capture the brand’s essence of practical luxury. In 2002, in order to promote global unity, the Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece brand was launched internationally. In 2007, Victorinox set up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched. 2014 marks Victorinox Swiss Army’s 130th anniversary, and each Victorinox Swiss Army product embodies the spirit of the Legendary Original Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of Functionality, Innovation, Quality and Iconic Design.Brand ValuesFUNCTIONALITYOur Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces are designed to optimize their usefulness. Excellent watch!
Excellent watch for the price! The movement in this watch is truly beautiful to watch in action. Very well finished. Only thing I would improve is all white hands instead of reflective steel with white inlays. This would improve readability a lot.

A Good Movement and a Good Brand
This watch is like a tank. It is not as bulky as an Invicta Reserve, but it's heavy. You must be a big and strong person, maybe a Hercules too to pull the crown all the way out to adjust the time. The date changes between 11:20 and 12:10 to change at midnight. The lume is there, but it is very insubstantial for a watch of this caliber. You can shine a flashlight at it to make it bright, and it will go back to being dim within one minute, then stay like that long enough for you to read it any time in your sleep. There are also a little lume on the subdial hands and marker dots, but they are almost useless. The chronograph buttons are stiff, but that is a good thing in a way because you won't accidentally set them off. I tested the chronograph against a G-Shock for several minutes and it is very accurate. The time telling portion is accurate too. Mine gains about 2 seconds per day, which is very good for a mechanical watch. The leather strap is thick and solid. It almost has no leather smell for some reason. The black surface is not shiny. I dropped some toothpaste scum on it and it left a faint stain that took days to disappear. Because of the weight, wear your strap loose. Your arm will thank you. The finish is almost all brushed. The movement is a ETA Valgranges a07.211. It is based on the ETA Valjoux 7750 movement. I hear this movement has a slightly more power reserve, and it was designed bigger to follow the trend of big watches. You can hand wind it with the crown when it is still in the closed position. The rotor only winds one way, so it might spin the opposite direction many times with your movements. For the price of $349, it has a lot value.

Second option and a miss again
I had previously purchased a Christian Audigier watch from Amazon that i had to return as it did not conform to what was offered.Decided to get a different brand. In order to make sure I did not have to go through the same problem again, I opted to buy Victorinox, as it has a reputation for good, sturdy watches.I got the watch and it was what I expected, a good looking, robust watch. After using it for about a month, the watchwent crazy. It goes like three hours fast each day. Not reliable at all.It seems that buying a watch from Amazon is a bit like a raffle. This one is also going back.

watch fine;chrono function not -3 times in shop
Purchased from Amazon in Dec 2011. Watch is very nice, big, looks good.Excellent time keeping but the Chronograph broke 3 times -is in shop at this time. I am waiting for their verdict, repair again or replace.Amazon does not handle the warranty but a warranty company which contracts with a watchmaker. Kind of complicated. The Amazon prices are great but the warranty is slow to process. Also, probably the watchmaker is well trained and competent but how does he get parts for Swiss watches if needed? I am not sure I buy again.Maybe someone from Amazon reads this and will explain how a watch can be fixed with original parts ; I am talking about an expensive Swiss watch.

Nice, stylish, durable timepiece. Kinda heavy on my wrist though when I’m all suit up but on casual, it’s perfect.
