Good Addition to my collection of Percussion Instruments
This is described as a Damroo but I beg to differ. It is more like an instrument we call a "Bagal Bachcha". One holds it under one's armpit and uses the upper arm to apply and release pressure, tightening and loosening the ropes binding the hide to the wooden body of the instrument. It produces a very interesting and versatile sound, ideal for Indian folk music, Baul music, Sufi songs and a variety of fusion sounds. The build and hide quality are good. One important piece of information for prospective buyers: the instrument comes with the ropes (and hide) loose. You have to tie the ropes to tune the instrument to the pitch you want. This percussion instrument is usually tuned to a C# (Sa).
