No, it is too soft for flights.

Yes it is just right to sling over your shoulder. It's a really great case. Heavily padded. Very durable. The best soft case I own now. And the price is fantastic.

Q: is this worth twice the price of the Gator bag?

I got these bags for my kit and they are great but if you think you can get a better deal, go for it.
