Qwirky fun!
When my friend pulled out Qwirkle at our local board game café & said it was like Scrabble (a game I don't particularly enjoy) I wasn't expecting much but enjoyed it so much, I went online & bought the collector's edition.I've played many different board games & am particularly a fan of abstract strategy games, like this one - games which are simple to learn yet really get you thinking! It's a simple matter of matching shapes & colours to the ones already laid down but as the game progresses, working out where to place them to get the most points & figuring out what your opponents are planning is a pleasant head-scratcher.We played the regular version in the board game café, which is ok but I prefer the collector's edition. The pieces have been upgraded to acrylic (they are wood in the basic version) which are nicer to handle & look like they will last longer. This edition also comes with racks for each player to put their pieces in (again, like the ones in Scrabble). The addition of a pad & pencil for scoring is handy. When I played the other version, I kept track of the score on my phone & actually found it a bit of a struggle. It also comes in a tin instead of the rather flimsy cardboard box which the other one has.At the time of writing, there's quite a difference in price between the regular & collector's editions. This is a game I anticipate playing a lot in future, so for me the collector's edition is worth it.
