A supplemental source of Omega-3 fatty acids for all classes of horses
S**M
One of the few primarily Omega 3 supplements out there - no added vitamins, low in Omega 6, etc.
I was looking for a supplement that would provide not only plant but also marine sources of Omega 3s and very little Omega 6. The marine source was important to me as well as it is metabolized differently. This is primarily an Omega 3 supplement with very low amount of Omega 6s (just 10-20% from the flax source only). I also wanted to avoid a pellet or more processed/extruded product for better absorption. I am on my 2nd gallon of contribute. He gets 2 oz (training). My horse will accept it mixed into his beet pulp and feed. It is a bit messy to feed, but we just mix it into his feed dish in his stall so that we don't gummy-up the feed bucket. I just wash out his feed dish as needed, but it has stayed quite clean since he gobbles up his food like he's never been fed. Here is the ingredient list (from back of Contribute):Fish oil: a source of EPA and DHAFlaxseed oil: a source of alpha-linolenic acidTotal omega-3 fatty acids: 10,780 mg per ozEicosapentaenoic (EPA): 3,210 mg per ozDocosahexaenoic (DHA): 2,320 mg per ozHere was something helpful I found from a Vet (Dr. Gray at SmartPak) - Some guidelines for supplementing:A study by OāConnor and others entitled āDietary fish oil supplementation affects serum fatty acid concentrations in horsesā showed that 63 days of supplementing fish oil at the rate of 324mg/kg of body weight was enough to alter the fatty acid profile and blood lipid properties of horses receiving regular exercise. To put this into practical terms:324mg/kg body weight X 500kg horse = 162 grams (or about 7 ounces) of fish oilFish oil is 10.8% EPA and 8% DHA, so the amount above would provide 17.5 grams EPA and 13 grams DHA.Besides fish oil, other good sources of omega-3s include ground stabilized flax seed and linseed oil, as well as canola oil. Other studies have provided 8% by weight of ration in linseed oil and 454g flax seed per 450kg body weight.

Horses like it
I make my horses a soupy feed every night. Alfalfa cubes, beet pulp, senior feed in 7 quarts of water. I add some contribute into the mixture and the horses eat every drop. I originally bought it for my horse with COPD but now I give it to all of them to add omega 3 to their diet per my vet. Iām ordering my fourth bottle tonight and Iāve found that they like it in their water buckets which means theyāre drinking even more water. Very happy with this product. If yours wonāt eat it send it to me! š¤£

This is AWFUL! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Oh my goodness I should have listened to the review I read and not wasted my money this is horrible smelling stuff my mare whom I bought it for refuses to eat her food and I only put 4 drops of this on her food with a medicine dropper and I finally forced her to eat it my gelding will eat it but it gave them both real runny poop!! Money is so hard to come by these days but I thought I would give it a whirl since my mare has heaves and I thought if by some chance it would help her it would be worth every penny I have tried 8 different feedings and I can NOT get her to even taste it NOW WHAT just dump it out?? And waste $70 like WOW!I had to give one star in order to leave this comment otherwise I would have gave it a negative -100! So mad! š”

Substitute for Welactin
This was a replacement for welactin that is discontinued, I mixed it with welactin for 4 days and now at 100% and my horse eats it with no problem. I'm still searching for a 100% fish oil for horses, the welactin was fantastic.

Good product. May take a few days feeding (building up to to recommended amount) for horses to adjust to, but then they seem to like it. Make sure to get the pump. It's much easier to deal with!
