If you feel like you are ever going to need tech support, look somewhere else
This enclosure lasted about a week. Setup is not as easy as some other enclosures but I got it working as RAID 5 with 4 Ironwolf 8TB drives. I've had trouble with RAIDs before so I have backups of all my files on other harddrive and cloud storage. That's a good thing because the RAID failed after about a week of use. The red light would flash on one of the drives and the event log showed that it was rebuilding the RAID. The drives were showing no errors at all. After about 20 minutes the rebuild would fail and the array would unmount from windows. I could restart the RAID and it would become visible again but the same thing would happen.Highpoint has no phone or chat support like more reputable companies like OWC have. They have a form you can use to submit a ticket. Expect to get a short reply once every 24hrs. The first replies will probably be used to ask questions that you already gave answers to in your ticket. I'm here writing a review because I can't do anything in the next 8 or 9 hours that I expect to wait for another reply from tech support.Update:"Every 24" hours was wishful thinking. I was lucky to get a response from tech support every 2 to 3 days. Two and a half weeks after I first submitted a support ticket I was offered 2 suggestions "Turn it off and on again" and "Try a different USB port". Let's assume I'm completely clueless and didn't try those things, you would think I could get those suggestions sometime in the first couple of days and not over two weeks later. No thanks to tech support, I was able to get the unit to continue to rebuild longer than 20 minutes. I let it do its thing but after 3 days of rebuilding, I was out of time to return it to Amazon and wasn't going to get stuck with it so I sent it back.I'm currently using a QNAP TR-004 for the same purpose. I've had no problems with it so far.

Didn't reliably work at all
I ordered this and used it for a day. I previously owned the first gen 4 bay Highpoint thunderbolt 3 product. It's OK but does randomly disconnect about once every two weeks requiring a PC reboot. I'm using Windows 10 Pro. I had hoped this 2nd gen hardware based RAID box would work better. It didn't. Once plugged in and drives fully formatted etc (and using RAID 5) the transfer and read speeds were very good like in the 1-1.5GB/s range (I am using the proper cables etc). However, in general, after a minute or two of use the box would fully disconnect and "disappear" from Windows. I tried everything. Updated drivers etc. I just think there is probably too much differences on the mobo and Windows 10 end. This box might work great and reliably in a Mac environment. For me on Windows it was essentially useless and after hours and hours of troubleshooting I had to send it back.

Well built, easy to install, quiet
The build quality is excellent. It took only a short time to install the disk drives in the drive drawers. I took some extra time to evaluate various RAID configurations and ended up deciding in RAID 10. The software that comes with this RAID enclosure made it simple and easy to create the configuration you decide on.I would say that the documentation leaves something to be desired, but if you take a little extra time to read and use the full online manual instead of the quick start several questions will be answered. The documentation leaves you hanging in mid air at the end when you need to remember to create/format partitions in the RAID disk space with the OS (e.g. Windows). I suppose that is obvious in hindsight, but unless you have installed raw unformatted drives recently you might have forgotten that. So many USB drives these days are already formatted so it is easy to forget.I tried booting up with the new RAID system a couple of times without seeing anything new in the drive list, and looking to see if something had gone wrong installing the driver - then had the head slapping realization that I had skipped a step. On to Windows Disk Management and creating partitions (you can create one or multiple as you see fit). Now all is good. Works well and is quiet. If you hear any noise it will be due to your choice of the drives you install in the enclosure. The fan is variable speed and quiet. Only minor thing, but probably a good choice to avoid accidents, is that the power button is located on the back, which in some cases might be a little hard to reach as it is for me in its current under desk location. But putting the button in back also there means little chance of accidentally bumping it.Bottom line - a very well made enclosure, easy installation (if you use the full online manual), quiet operation, great performance. I have had no need to involve customer service, so I cannot comment on it at this point.

Works well enough
One of the drive slots says the drive is bad but replacing the drive doesn’t fix it. Works well besides this issue.
