Works out of the box and even better when properly setup
Out of the box this kinda surprised me. Dimensions were spot on and everything seemed to fit pretty well. Even the string grooves were pretty close to where they need to be. The bridge was fitted "ok" and looked like it could support full string tension without marring the top plate. I know better tho so decided to tune it 4 half steps down to let it settle for a couple days before taking string height measurements. I was about right for steel strings with 4.5-5mm on the G string, 3-3.5mm on the E string. Overall sound while detuned was really good - a touch of growl on the low end but not raspy and mellow highs without the dreaded piercing shrill on the E string. Even the fingerboard had a nice scoop with no obvious dings or waves. The soundpost ends were well fitted but the length was a touch long causing the Treble side F-hole to push up and I could see the pressure spot of the sound in the reflection of the finish. Most beginners would appreciate the overly snug fit of the sound post since it means it will stay in place during shipping and string changes. I ended up cutting 1.5mm off the length to get the F-hole to lay flat (matching the bass side). The top plate still has memory of the old post so the soundpost is super loose with no string tension and the slightest bump will make it fall out of place. Not a big deal for me since I recheck soundpost position during restringing.I did the usual setup tweaks for pegs, string groves, tailpiece position, fingerboard shaping/smoothing, nut height and made a new bridge since I wanted to use synthetic strings (5.5mm G, 3mm E). The original steel strings survived all the horrors of the setup process and still sounded pretty good after all that. I'm running the new formula Tonica's on it now and very happy with everything. I like the project aspect of things but I'm pretty sure I could've tunned it up right out of the box and had a decent beginner instrument.

Amazing product!
Absolutely amazing! My 10 year old daughter recieved this as a gift for Christmas! She hugged me and cried for like 10 minutes. She has never played a violin before and is on it constantly right now. Didnt take too long for the husband to set it up and there are videos on youtube to help with everything! We absolutely love the case it comes with. Its solid. Thank you for creating such an incredible product at a great price!

Great for Beginners
Had to have fiddle repaired because the bridge was too high. Craftmanship-barb was not smooth and caused strings and bow to break.

Great first set for beginners
It's been a while since I played violin so I wanted to get back into it. This set came with everything that I would need minus a beginner's book. Although I still had some from my previous lessons, it would still be nice to have it included.Violin comes with bridge detached, you need to install this yourself. Theres plenty of youtube videos that illustrate how to do so.A couple of the pegs were loose but was easily fixable by pressing them more into the violin.Overall, pretty good set for the price.

Cracked wood and poor quality strings
Immediately upon opening the case, I found a crack in the front face of the violin. It ran from the level of the top of the sound posts to the base of the body, midline of the body.My immediate thought was to return it, but I decided to see if it could work. The complaints that read about the pegs not holding when tuned are correct, when you don’t push them into their holes while tuning. This brings me to another problem. The D string snapped while tuning prior to getting anywhere near enough tension to play a note. The second string held without breaking, but there goes the backup.Based off the tension that was required, my worry was that the weight placed on the bridge would exacerbate the crack to the body, so this, I returned it. Probably won’t buy this one again, may need to look for a more pricey one to get a quality build.
