I had a robot mower perimeter wire with a break. Could not find it. This gadget found it. The instructions say its 80%art and 20% science. They were right. I disconnected my mower base station and disconnected the wires from the station. Stuck a screwdriver in the ground and attached the black connector of the transmitter to it and the red to one of the wires. Frankly, it shouldn't make any difference what the black is connected to (nothing, screwdriver, other perimeter wire), but I did the screwdriver thing. Then I walked along the wire, listening to it. When it turned a right angle, it got weird--quiet and much harder to find the wire, so I marked that point but continued on. Then half way around my 1000' wire, the sound went silent for about a foot. Lo and behold, the break was right there. Mine looked cut. It was among acorns and I'm wondering if a squirrel did the deed. Or a nasty neighbor?!? It was probably not cut by the mower, since it was tight to the ground before being cut. I spliced the wire and it was fine thereafter. Love the tool, but take some time with it to make it work.

I use it to localize my power line to my garage in yard and it does work perfectly. Of course this is made of cheap plastic and would not survived in a professional setting were employee would abuse it. But for occasional use it works perfectly and if use with care it probably last a long time.
