Teach Yourself Hindi Tutor: Grammar and Vocabulary Workbook (Learn Hindi with ): Advanced beginner to upper intermediate course

The best book for the advanced beginner to upper intermediate learners of Hindi
I will not be using this book for learning Hindi (I already have a full native speaker competence in spoken and written Hindi), but for teaching it and advising others to use it. Here I wish to address two criticisms voiced below – (1) that the book is difficult, and that (2) there is no indication of pronunciation and audio recordings. The publisher makes it very clear on the title page that the book is meant for "advanced beginner to upper intermediate learners." If the user as a learner keeps this in mind, they should not make this complaint. The author assumes that the learners already know the pronunciation and have amassed some vocabulary at the beginner level. (They are also supposed to be able to use dictionaries). The author's job is to build upon this foundation. And he does this job of teaching advanced grammar (the use of the Emphatic Particles and of the Subjunctive and Participles – to mention just two of a number of "difficult" areas of Hindi grammar). It is a matter of great pleasure for me that the publishers have finally realised that a native speaker of a foreign language is in an ideal position to write a book for teaching the language. This is not to downgrade the capabilities of the non-native teachers. But a native speaker of Hindi like Naresh Sharma has a "feel for the languages" or shabdabhaavanaa which a foreigner can attain only with great difficulty (if at all). The author displays this shabdabhaavanaa everywhere in the book.

It's excellent but difficult!
I would say that it definitely does what it says on the tin... Advanced beginner to upper intermediate. The alphabet section is two pages at the beginning and then no more help, with everything in Hindi. To be honest, despite these challenges, it's a really good book. My 4 stars comes because there are lots of words in each text that are new and not in the glossary so I spent ages looking them up. Otherwise, I think it's a high quality book for serious language learners.

It is not a book for beginners - which it states clearly in its description.
Outstanding 'tutor' - Clear and simple grammatical explanations, with examples which make the grammar even easier to grasp. Lots of exercises. Highly recommended.

Libro eccellente
Libro veramente ben strutturato, un vero e proprio tutor in formato libro. Segue lo studente passo passo e lo guida attraverso le asperità della lingua Hindi. Unica pecca la mancanza di registrazioni, ma del resto la perfezione non è di questo mondo.

Helpful book. Missing pages.
I would give it more stars, but the book is missing 16 pages from the answer key in the back. Besides that, it is a helpful workbook. Though the grammar topics are not complex, the examples provided assume a good foundation in Hindi grammar and vocab, so don't make this your first book.
