Heng's Crispy XO Scallop Chilli Sauce 180g

I've eaten delicious XO sauce often enough in Chinese food, but this time I really wanted Italian XO sauce. It was far too tricky to source, so I bought this instead. In the recipe in question - bucatini with bottarga, XO sauce and samphire - my palette isn't sophisticated enough to tell the difference! This is a key component of a delicious, quick Italian meal. There are more uses beyond the original for this fantastic concoction.

As others have noted it is very crispy, imho excessively so, but it is very tasty. It does not have a pleasant mouthfeel and in my opinion should only be used as a flavouring ingredient for soups, stews, pastas or rices. The best XO sauce in my opinion is Lee Kum Kee which is significantly more expensive but correspondingly nicer with a chewy mouthfeel and massive flavour. I sometimes eat LKK XO sauce by itself out of the jar for a fishy umami hit. I would not do this with Heng's XO sauce.

Erm... if you haven't tried Heng's crispy XO sauce, you need to BUY IT NOW! So good on everything from dim sum to Noodle soups, veggies - everything. The right amount of spice, crunch, umami yummiest! And such a good price here too. GET IT!

I dont if its the seller I bought from or the product its self but I found this to be very bitter ,and when I tried to dilute it with soy sauce it made worse.I will try it out again with plain rice but am not optimistic.Also I thought it will be be spicy no matter how slightly but nope.Lastly have tasted it I now find the price was not worth it

I k ow it says crispy on the jar but I think it’s too crispy and loses all the flavour. To me it doesn’t taste as XO sauce anymore. I only use it in soups. I don’t think it’s good value as there aren’t any scallops or other ingredients that I can discerne the flavour. Very disappointed. Won’t buy it aggain
