Very good for long power outages
THE GOOD:This is a very high efficient LED light. This means it will run a long time on a set of batteries, for its light output. (I compute all LED flashlight & lantern efficiency in terms of the amount of lumen-hours per equivalent single D-sized alkaline battery, independent of the size and number of batteries. This puts all on a common basis for comparison.)It uses D batteries. This is good because D batteries are the most cost effective alkaline flashlight type of batteries. (It will also run on AA batteries, but, D batteries are about 3 time more cost effective.)The "color" of the light is very good. It is a good shade of white for human eyes to see with.Operation of the control switch is easy and clear. It is very cute. You get a lot of light for the money.I plan to buy more; some for me, some for gifts.THE NOT SO GOOD:The distribution of the light from the LEDs could be better. When viewing toward the light, the individual LEDs are a little too blinding. When carrying it down a dark pathway/walkway, too much of the light shines upwards. I get around this by inverting the lantern. (The carrying handle will invert, but, will not stay when carying it inverted, so, I use a little duct tape to hold it in place.)The top of the lantern needs to be flat so it can be placed on a table inverted; this produces better light on the table and the LEDs are not blinding. (I made mine flat by gluing a fitted piece of red plastic on top.)OTHER COMMENTS:If you need a lantern for camping, you may want a light that puts out more light. This lantern is optimized for the light required for survival type of conditions, for the longest run time on a set of batteries.DESIGN CHANGES I WOULD WANT:The lantern light diffuser slopes to a smaller diameter to the top. I would want it to be larger at the top, so, more light will be directed downward. This would direct more light on the ground when carrying it, plus, it would make a better light for setting on the top of a table. The individual LEDs need more diffusion of light so they will not have the blinding affect when looking in the general direction of the lantern.I would not include the AA adapter, instead, leave it off and lower the price. I know some will say; but what about battery versatility? I say, if this is important then you should include an adapter for C batteries and one for AAA batteries also. However, the light would no longer have the simplicity and lower cost. Also, most adapters get lost or left behind.

Universal water-resistant lantern, accepts three D or AA size batteries with no need for adapter
Solid, comfortable to handle and carr, universal water-resistant lantern, accepts three D or AA size batteries natively, with no need for adapter, just use enclosed spacer for AA batteries. Sufriciently bright, not as bright as my old Coleman hanging 200 lumen lantern, but is lighter, can use AA or D size batteries, and will suffice in most conditions on NYC apartment. Energizers' lanters are the only lanters utilizing an ingenious one small led night light ( you have 4 white led and 1 orange night light led inside, and can cycle full brighness/low/nightlight). That nightlight led makes sure in complete darkness you are always aware of the environment, location of the lantern, and is great for kids to not get them scared in complete blackout - very useful feature, often overlooked by reviewers. If you have small children, most of them afraid of darkness, this is the one to get to use with them, or another Energizer lantern with the same orange led nightlight feature, there are several of the, all very good. Very affordable, excellent value, and comes with 3 fmresh AA batteries, ready to use. Highly recommend.

Good Priced Lighting.
A great lantern for it's purpose. Some may not find this bright enough for their liking, but when camping this is the perfect brightness in my opinion. The last thing you want is a blindingly bright light in which you're blinded when it's turned on and blink again when it turns off and your eyes need to adjust to the dark again. It gives off enough light that my whole living room can be comfortably lit if the power was to go out, it has two brightness settings, and the nightlight mode will probably come in handy for our three year old camping. The housing seems durable, as long as it's not dropped from too high, the adapter included to use AA batteries rather the Ds is awesome, and the hook on the bottom hangs well from inside our tent.At the sale price paid, I'd definitely replace it if broken.
