Wonderful result, tricky installation
This product has transformed our 2010 iMac 11.2 which now boots to the log on screen in 20 seconds. Followed the installation videos carefully (found more than one, referenced both). Removing the screen was tricky particularly un-plugging the small temperature sensor leads from the mother board (you cannot pull on the wires!). Re-installing the screen display port cable requires manual dexterity. Switch on, down load the operating system which takes some time. Use disk doctor to reformat the new drive even though it comes formatted. Reinstall from time machine which also takes some time. But well worth the effort. Should have done this even if the original hard drive was not on the blink.

Easy SSD upgrade, with considerable lift in performance, and speedier access to files.
Bought to upgrade a mid-2010 iMac, to convert to an SSD operation. Result: much speedier start-up - from previous circa 2 minutes, to less than 30" - maybe 20", like a laptop. Followed video instructions, with care - not difficult. Very happy!

Perfect to bring back to life an ageing iMac 27"
The 1 TB Seagate Barracuda in my 27" late iMac (Model 10,1) started to make clicking noises. After 13 years of loyal service (!), it was pretty much expected. This kit is simply astonishing. It maxes out the SATA 2 connection available (3 GB/s, no need to go for the 6 GB/s as my motherboard does not supports it) and everything is included to do a neat job.Speaking of, the installation is not what I would call easy but also very feasible, I will rate it 6/10 for difficulty, 10 being impossible. Be sure to follow the excellent OWC official install video while doing it and you will be golden. The most difficult part for me was removing the LCD cables (I have big hands). And since you are there, give the iMac a good cleaning while it is open. After having reinstalled macOS (High Sierra in my case), I was speechless. The speed is incredible, matching my 2019 MacBook Air running Monterey. And the silence is a nice benefit too, the poor Barracuda was so noisy in comparison.I was about to order a new 2021 24" iMac but after this upgrade, I decided to keep my 27", add another 8 GB of RAM to maximise it at 16 GB and call it a day. In my case, I don't need a powerful CPU/GPU, just a stable, quick system for everyday tasks with a big screen. Finally, there is also a sense of accomplishment of upgrading your gear and it is better for the planet. :)

Follow the instructions exactly
I purchased this for a mid 2010 iMac that a friend gave me. The hard drive was going bad and I had already fixed a 2009 iMac with another one of these kits. The 2010 iMac is much easier to work on than the 2009! All the tools you need are there in the box and the instructions online were easy to follow. Took me maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. That was two months ago and everything is operating wonderfully. Instead of taking 5 minutes or more to boot up, it's done in maybe 30 seconds. Programs operate much more smoothly and the computer is dead quiet. Occasionally the fan turns on, but I never knew how loud the fan was without the hard drive making noise. Definitely the way to go if you have an old Mac and want to keep it alive. Definitely would recommend this kit. If you feel brave, you could buy the components (SSD and conversion wire) separately, but no guarantees that will work. Fingers crossed that this SSD will last at least as long as the original hard drive (10 years).

Great product
I installed the SSD in my 2009 iMac after the original hard drive failed. This product improved overall processing performance "SIGNIFICANTLY". It brought back new life to an aging iMac.... will likely use for another 5 years. The tools in the kit ARE NECESSARY and very helpful. I recommend this product and brand to anyone needing to upgrade their iMac. The only caution is that it is helpful to watch the manufacturer's installation videos several times. The process is tedious, attention to detail is critical and helpful to have manual dexterity working with intricate parts during the removal/replacement process. Start to finish took me approximately one hour for the "hardware". Software and reload of apps was another couple hours.... helpful if you have a backup to rely on.
