Coleman Elite Perfectflow Propane Lantern

We highly recommend spending the extra money on this lantern. The simplicity of this lantern is worth every stinking penny. You don’t need to have a lighter to start it, you just assemble to the propane tank, turn the propane on, and then push the ignite button until it fires up. It takes longer to put the propane tank onto the lantern and add the light guard than it does to start up. The light from it is exceptionally bright, and we generally use it on a very low setting so we don’t blind other campers. The light guard is so helpful for directing the light to a certain area which is a huge plus. The base of the lantern is sturdy and pops out little legs for added support. It also has a metal handle that can be used to hang the lantern though that would be where our one complaint lies. There is not notch or hook for stability when hanging, the handle is just one straight metal piece so it can slide back and forth if not placed well. Definitely not something we would count heavily against it, just something to note. Obviously this lantern requires more effort than a battery operated lantern, but for the light output you get it is absolutely worth it. The mantles are fairly easy to change as well, just slightly harder than changing a battery. We have had this lantern for 2 years, used it at LEAST a dozen camping trips, and have only needed to change the mantles one time.

Easy to set up, easy to light and easy to store. First time use outdoor only as the mantles put off a lot of smoke and unpleasant stench (since they are on fire). After that use it anywhere. Puts off ample light. Burns way more than all night on low with a new 1lb bottle of propane. Storage case is compact and durable. You can definitely find brighter lanterns but for waaay more money without a hard case. In my opinion, I would rather buy 2 of these if I need more light. Oh yeah I did! Gonna buy 2 more as well. Also, I keep extra mantles in the storage case. They store really good under the lantern. I would DEFINATELY recommend this lantern and hard case!

Years ago I had a Coleman lantern you filled with fuel from a gallon container. I had not camped in 25 years and this past Summer we decided to rent an RV and take an RV trip with the kids.As usual I bought the fill in items I needed from Amazon. Virtually everything you need at great prices, delivered in two days (or less) with Amazon Prime.The lantern comes with a case, and instead of the old fill the fuel with a funnel, the fuel now comes from a canister you insert below the light unit. Very handy, very easy to use and the light output is perfect for a campsite at night.Ours is now safely packed away in the provided case, in the garage awaiting our next camping trip. When I take it from the case, it will not be dusty or cobweb filled. Another quality Coleman product, and I am a happy customer of Coleman and Amazon.

Coleman Quality, easy to use and very easy to carry. Very bright light, pretty quiet. The case secures the lantern very well and even travelling off road I have not had any issues with mantles breaking. I installed Coleman flint lantern lighters so that I don't need to light with matches and saved a great deal of money. The electronic insta-light version of this lantern sells for approx $79.00. The flint lighters cost about $3.00 and work perfectly. The base has fold out legs that provide great stability and I don't have to carry "wet" fuel anymore.Great Coleman product!!

This is what about what I expected, however, if I were buying again, I'd get something different. This is nice and bright, which is why I went with it. I love the hard case it comes in. I would be nice if the case would also fit a propane canister, but that's a minor thing.My biggest complaint with this lantern is actually not with the lantern itself, but with the Coleman brand propane canisters. The canister actually sits in the base of the lantern. The canisters come with a plastic base of its own that fits snugly into the lantern base. My beef is that with almost every single canister I've used, the base of the canister comes off the canister. It is glued on with a small dab of glue that fails regularly. Once this happens, you cannot use the stand with this lantern. The canisters don't sit flat or fit snug without the canister base. This wasn't too big a deal for me because I was hanging it. But it was still a nuisance to not have the option of using the base on the table.Like I said, it's the canisters to blame for this headache, not this lantern. But with the fire hazard and heat from this lantern (I won't use it in a tent), plus the inconvenience of having to use a match to light (lighters don't work because they don't fit into the hole), and the inability to set it down (because of the canisters), I would not buy this again. I'd probably go with a decent battery-powered light where none of these are issues, or at least get a model that has a starter, and hope I just got some duds for canisters. I may look into installing a lighter on this one, but I'm just not overly impressed with this, and would not choose this if I could do it over.

This was exactly what I was hoping for. Its Bright, its easy, its safe, its durable. I almost got the collapsible version, but now that I see how it needs a case, and needs a base that's a bit more sturdy, I am glad I chose this item. I fired this thing up in my garage during the day and it still lit up the day time. The knob seems to shut off the lantern when you go lower than half way. So from my experience it was adjustable from half way to full throttle, seems like a safety setting to make sure you have fully stopped propane flow. Also worth noting the case is nice and strong and comes with two insert stick on pads to pad and retain the globe. Without a case like this I can see a lantern like this breaking, get this one with the case, or one like it with a case.

Nice Lantern.PROS:Very dim to very bright adjustment.The reflector is very nice to have when you want directional light and less light in your eyes.Appears to be well built and nicely styled.CONS:The base does not fit my Flame King refillable tanks. Fits Coleman tanks very well with the black base on the tank.I was disappointed that my refillable propane tanks don't fit the base properly. Too loose. I few wraps of electrical tape on the base of the tank should fix the problem.I really like the easy to attach & remove reflector. It keeps light out of your eyes in some situations. The reflector clips on easily and when not in use, it clips onto the base of the lantern out of the way.The lantern is very bright. I doubt you will be disappointed. I would buy another one of these lanterns if I needed one.

This is a sturdy, well made lantern. I will be returning it though as there is no case for it. The case is sold separately, which doesn't specify in the description.

GREAT LANTERN!!! Went Camping for a week and used every evening used one propane cylinder and part of another very fuel efficient. We had a large campsite and gave off plenty of light.

This item is improperly described... the description indicates that a case is included.. but seems to be untrue. Looks like most people in the reviews did NOT receive the case. Those that did may NOT have received the Deluxe model. The item is described as the Coleman DELUXE however The picture you see with this item is Coleman ELITE 5177 series - according to the box . Described as ( PerfectFlow™ system for consistent fuel, no matter the conditions - Coleman Deluxe Propane Lantern with Case ) with Instastart . --- priced at $51.99 ... a great deal if you get the case as described with the model offered. Note the shape of the globe and the base in the first picture compared to the picture in the Manufacture info.If you look further down under the Manufacturer information the picture depicts a different lantern - it shows the same picture attributed to the Coleman Two-Mantle Propane Lantern with Case, very different lantern than the Coleman Deluxe ( aka ELITE model ) (NOT instastart and has a different globe and base. This item is slightly higher priced at $59.84..good price but a " lower model " of lantern.I returned the first lantern after speaking with the Customer Service desk because it didn't arrive with the case, So they sent out a new one... again arrived without a case. After another call to Amazon C.S. I suggested either Coleman or Amazon needs to change the item description. A suggestion was to order a case ( $39.00 cost ) separately.. which I did, but the model of the case is NOT compatible with the Coleman Deluxe ( actually the ELITE ) model. So I returned the case back to Amazon and will keep the 2nd lantern sent, just need to be careful in handling it so the globe doesn't break. Wish I could find the case that will fit the Coleman Elite with the base for safekeeping.Hope this helps for others considering purchasing this item.
