Starrett Steel Drive Pin Punch Set with Knurled Grip for Precise Positioning and Secure Holding - Hardened and Tempered Steel, 8" Length, 5-Pack - S248

These are still made in the USA, nice long length and the pins are good hardened steel. Handles are pretty aggressively knurled and about 1/2" diameter. I don't know why Starrett doesn't chamfer the end in this 248 series the same way they do on every other punch and striking tool they make, but it does have a very small chamfer with about 1/16" face. I expect these may need regrinding a bit more frequently. They don't mention it here on Amazon but Starrett says that these punches (both in steel and brass) are slightly undersized - this is true but probably of no consequence to anyone. For those that might care, these are what I measured (both axes, they seem perfectly round, straight, and true...for now): 0.020" under (3/8"); 0.010" under (5/16"); and about 0.007" under for the three smaller sizes. Good punches, I'll buy again and recommend...worlds better than any of the china punches and it seems almost impossible to find long straight anymore in the other remaining US brands. No pouch...if you need that, spend a few bucks more and look for the listing that adds "PC" to the model number.

I am a small engine mechanic and sometimes I need to use a drift punch to knock out a roll pin from an axle or shaft or something. I've had good brand name punches and they just bend and break, but not these starrett punches. These are by far the best punches I've ever had my hands on. Top quality craftsmanship! The handles have a perfect knurled on them, easy to hold, they don't want leave your hands when hitting them. I'm very happy with this product. Thank you Starrett!

These are a great option for when you need longer punches, I only wish they made more smaller sizes. There are a lot of good options for standard punches but most are only 1-2" long, when you need something longer these are great quality at not a bad price.

I’ve wasted so much money over the years. Do yourself a favor just buy these. There a little pricey but will last!!! Starrett is we’re my money will be spent this day forward.
