Good solid unit for external optical drives
Lets address the elephant in the room this comes with a US type A plug on the transformer so it will need to be replaced or you will need to use an adapter. Mine burned out after 1 use but the seller had a replacement sent out to me with no issues and had quick friendly communication.The unit its self its solid metal and just works and it should easily outlast the life span of my blu ray drive which is easy to setup.I chose to use a optical drive this way as there is so much more power available than the slim line units so things just happen way faster

Fast and effective reading and writing
Having decided to get a BR writer for my PC I decided on this one in terms of both brand and value for money. Easy to install and recognised automatically by the Windows Operating System. I had no problem or errors writing to both 50GB and 25GB BR blank discs (writing a full 50GB image to disc took just over 30 mins). I'm also in the process of ripping my CD collection for a NAS and this has performed flawlessly and is fast (under 2 mins for a CD). Very happy with the outcome. Looks wise it it is a fairly standard and pretty unexciting and there are better looking but more expensive options out there if that matters to you.

Works Great (Mainly used for ripping)
I bought this to play & rip my blu-rays, I wanted to be able to rip my UHD Blu-Rays too & after flashing the firmware it can now Play/RIP UHD content too. (all my physical media Exc. games are now backed up so I'm pretty happy)Since buying this I have had no issues ripping bluerays, everything works as it should. I also ripped some soundtrack CDs so it has no issues playing CD, DVD, Blu-Ray or UHD Blu-Ray

Do not buy this rubbish
This Hitachi-LG Blu-ray/DVD/CD Burner Optical Drive has lasted just 1 year. It has stopped working in the last few days and keeps making my PC freeze leading to waiting & waiting for it to restart. I am not at all happy that it has lasted less than 12 months when previous Pioneer drives have lasted much much longer (& had more usage). Avoid!!
