Quiet, cooling and portable
The TECKNET N5 cooling pad is 11” deep x 14” wide. There are two LED lighted 110mm fans with a power switch that controls both lights (2 tiny LED lights under each fan) and fans (they cannot be controlled separately.) To indicate when the power and fans are on, there is a blue LED light in the back beside the red, rocker power switch. It is quite bright and might bug your friends if you work facing one another on a desk. The TECKNET cooling pad also comes with a welcome guide that has a welcome, specifications, features, contents, configurations, ergonomics, safety and the 18-month warranty. TECKNET includes a card that specifies you can claim a 6 month warranty extension for a total 2-year free warranty if you register! It comes with a USB to USB cable and there are two USB 2.0 ports on the back next to the power switch, one which you must use to power the fans via USB from your laptop of other USB power source. That leaves one open USB for other uses. The second USB port will charge my phone (iPhone 5s) but not open the phone to transfer photos or connect to iTunes as I can with a direct cable. However, my flash drive DOES open and I can open and transfer files. The base of my laptop while on the pad sits about 1.75” (to a maximum of 2” inches if sitting higher up on the pad) high in the back and about 0.9” high in front giving it a slight upward slope (which I like). The slope is actually a very natural angle for me.The fans a very quiet when switched on. Just a swishing noise. The fans pull air from the side and below and push air to the laptop bottom. It has actually been very hot here and the fans have kept the normally warm underside of the computer cool to the touch. But the real test of a cooling pad is the effect on the cores. Here are RealTemp reports for temps (in °C) in 2 sensors uncooled and cooled at two working levels10% work uncooled50 4710% work fans on45 4390% work uncooled62 61100% work fans on57 55These were taken on a 15.6” Acer ASPIRE 5733 with Intel Pentium P6100 that has been “amped up” a little. As an aside, I also just took the whole laptop apart a while back and cleaned out the mass of dust that was in the fan and vents! It was overheating so badly that it would shut down. Once I cleaned it out, that stopped. As you can see, it is cooling the laptop about 5°C +/-.I work on a standup podium desk or seated and the cooling pad is very stable and sturdy. The laptop is also very stable on the cooling pad. I have to actually pick up the laptop to reposition it on the cooling pad. I also have to pick up the cooling pad to reposition it on the desk. The cooling pad has rubberized feet on all four corners on the bottom that keep it from sliding around and raise it to allow airflow. On top it has a single long rubber bar to keep the laptop in place. Also on the bottom are open slats to allow airflow. I have used the cooling pad and laptop on my lap and it works well. It is far better than putting a bare computer on your lap!Previously, I used the Targus Laptop Chill Mat 17”. It died after two hot years of use, but had only a 1-year warranty. It also cost almost twice as much. The Targus also had two fans where the air was pulled in and up toward the laptop but it lacked an extra USB port to make up for the one used up. The Targus had no LED lights, a slightly steeper tilt and a neoprene covering. The neoprine is the only difference I note when I have the laptop in my lap and I have bare legs, however, I almost always raise it up on a pillow to be at the right height for me, so that is moot.It does not appear to put much of a drain on the computer...it says 0.41A current and 2.05W input. I have not noticed a dramatic reduction in laptop battery time while unplugged and using the TECKNET cooling pad.I am happier to have the extra USB on the TECKNET, as I seem to always be using all the ports on my computer. Further, the lesser slope of the TECKNET cooling pad feels more natural and less straining on my wrist and I am happy about that. Plus, the 2-year warranty is better! As a note, the fans on both units seem underpowered (reported as 1200 RPM and 38.5 CFM), though both offered similar cooling. However, this may be a USB power consideration, and you can see that they do provide some cooling.I was initially worried about the LED on the TECKNET, but I find, even in low light, that I don’t notice it while I work. Further, as you can barely hear the fans, it acts as a reminder when the fans are still on!I am happy with the TECKNET cooling pad and will report back throughout its life!

Great product
Works exactly how I was hoping it would. My laptop was running very warm and this is great to keep it cool. I don't use it on the highest setting but its good to know it will be there if I need it. Its lightweight so it doesn't add to the weight of the laptop. I have a 15" so it's a bit heavier then most so this is great. Has great grippers so the laptop doesn't slide all over. I would recommend!

A fair competitor for using on your lap!
I use my laptop on my lap, so that leaves very few options out there for cooling pads that will be comfortable and functional for lap usage. I will preface this by saying that I have owned 3 Cooler Master NotePal LapAir Laptop Cooling Pads. Those last me roughly a 1 to 1.5 years each before I replace them. So I'm going to compare the two. Cooler Master has always done the job well... it has 1 fan but it's powerful. It uses up one of your USB ports to power it, but does have a pass through port to make up for it. It has definitely met my needs, but here's what I disliked about it... it felt heavier on my lap, wasn't as comfortable as it could be, it was bulky- bigger than my laptop and hard to fit in my laptop bag. It was somewhat simple to clean. What I disliked the most though was the cord/plug. That USB end was huge and it would stick out of the side of my laptop so big that there was no way I was going to use the pass-thru port on it to plug in additional things as it would easily stick out a good 3 inches or so if I did that, putting my ports in jeopardy of getting damaged. And after a year or so, the area where the plug meets the usb end always shorts out from usage/bending. It's a delicate cord, and once that shorts, you have to buy a new one. I've successively owned 3 of them due to that issue. Before that, I had tried a small belkin and a logitech cooling pads, but both of those quit working in a year or less and really didn't move much air. The cooler master one did move air! It worked well, but that cord kept bugging me. Then I got a new laptop, my Lenovo Y50touch. Love this laptop, but doesn't have the traditional rubber feet so I found it kept sliding off the cooler master pad.So all things culminating for a time to replace my lapair again, I decided to take a risk and try a new one... this pad from TeckNet. I have to say I'm liking it so far. I've used it a couple months. It has 2 fans. I'm not convinced that the 2 fans put out more air than my old one with 1 fan, but I do think it's about equal in air flow. I wish I had a way to test that objectively, but they seem about the same to me. It is keeping my laptop cool enough to play my MMO games so it's meeting that need! It is a little smaller than my lapair was... and it's actually about an inch shorter than the length of my laptop side to side (so laptop hangs over about .5" each side), but still works just great. It fits on my lap well, my laptop doesn't seem to slide off, it's comfortable on my lap and I think a little bit lighter than my old one. I haven't needed to clean the fans yet, but it doesn't let you remove the mesh to do that like my lapair did, so I think I will miss that feature. I do like that it has an on/off button! I didn't have one on my lapair (you had to unplug it to turn that one off). So that's a nice feature, but it is a mild pain to access since it's on the back of the cooling pad. Likewise, the 2 usb ports are also on the back of the cooling pad, which makes them mildly difficult to access while holding it on your lap... I dislike that they are on the back side because ease of access is more difficult and i also can gauge how far out my USB stick is sticking out, etc, so I feel it could be a risk. 1 of the 2 usb ports is used to plug in the cooling pad, so don't count on using it for extra stuff. It does still leave you with 1 extra usb port though, so in the end you've powered your cooler and not lost or gained in your number of usb ports to do so. I have had trouble with my laptop recognizing anything I've plugged into that extra port though. It can't read my usb stick or anything like that... so I don't know if it was only made for powering things, not for data, or what... but I have not succeeded in using it for anything other than power. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? All in all though, it's a decent product. Not worthy of 5 stars, but definitely worth 4 in my opinion. A fair competitor to consider for lap usage.

Worth the money
My laptop used to get very heat up due to gaming but this has helped it cool down and increased the performance. It’s well built and stable for my heavy laptop.

Side to side fits a 15.6 inch laptop, and anything larger would not fit side to side.
Works just as advertised.

Thin and Slick, Lacking in Fan Power
slick and thin... but fans at max speed i can't even feel with my hand 1-2 inches away from the pad... they blow some air, so if your laptop just needs a bit of help this will work for you... but if your laptop seriously overheats I'd look for something more powerful
