Works great for me
Don't get the elastic core version, get the version with the stainless steel core. You'd need two hands to set it up, but it comes together with just one pull. I used to have the elastic core version but the elastic wears out pretty quickly. The accessories are also great quality. I really like the coil lanyard that it comes with. Keeps the staff out of the way but still within reach while you're fishing.

Great wading aid.
I had knee replacement surgery a little over a year ago and I take this will me when wading a creek and it does a super job. Gives me much more confidence when moving up or down stream!

Its best feature may be its worst (but only for some users)
I bought this wading stick to replace a Simms wading stick I owned and used for 25 years all over the world. The new Simms stick has been redesigned, and is about 3x the cost of the Aventik. So I decided to give this one a shot. In general, I'm quite pleased. It seems well made. It snaps together very easily with an elastic cord holding it together (though more about that later). The sheath is nice; the coiled cord isn't quite as good as the spring-loaded retractor cord on my old Simms, but is adequate. Here's my issue: the Simms had a feature where you would telescope the top section and a spring loaded catch would pop out to lock together all of the sections, even if you put the staff under tension. Why is that important? Say you're walking on a flat and find yourself knee deep in mud. You might want to use the staff to help you extract yourself. However, the staff is going to penetrate deeply into the mud, get stuck, and you'll need to pull it out. With my old Simms that wasn't a problem: the metal catch held the staff together. With this Aventik staff, it's held together only by the elastic cord, and I fully expect it to snap rather than be able to pull out any deeply buried sections of the staff. So I would never take it bone-fishing, for example, where this is a not uncommon issue when you're walking the flats. It's also an issue on some trout streams. It happens that most of my wading these days is on small, freestone pocket water and getting deep into mud never happens. So I'm keeping this stick. But it could be a serious issue for you depending on where you fish.

This was a good purchase!!
Bought this as an alternative to a Simms or Orvis which are 5x’s as much. Staff itself is perfect! Holder/case is not great for sure.

DEADLY FLAW
On my third day of fishing in a fast moving river, while hip deep and leaning on the walking stick for balance, the handle suddenly gave way sliding down the pole causing a dangerous fall into the river. I contacted the manufacturer to inform them of the problem and request a replacement. I flew back home (a 12 hour flight) and left the broken stick behind...it was broken! At first the manufacturer responded to me but upon finding out that I have no photo of the broken stick, they have ghosted me. Very unprofessional! Be warned this product has a potentially FATAL FLAW. Fortunately, I was not hurt due to this failure. But it only a matter of time for a much worse outcome to occur.

It’s a $30 wading staff, but has 1 major flaw
Fly fisherman who needs a wading staff for occasional heavy flow water. Overall, this is ok, but remember, it’s $30 and you get what you pay for.The major flaw with this product is there is no way provided to attach the lanyard to it.Having a way to secure the wading staff to yourself to guard against loosing it as it floats down river is an important feature. So important, that the seller includes a stretching lanyard in the packaging and features it in the listing. The flaw is that there is no way to attach the lanyard to the wading staff. (You could loop it through the strap and hook it back on itself, but, that significantly reduces its effective reach and looks clunky and haphazard).Sent a note to seller inquiring how they thought to attach the lanyard but no reply. As a workaround, I added a zip tie just below the handle and some tape to stop it sliding down the shaft.
