You won't regret buying this machine.
My wife should be writing this review, but since I bought it and heard her agonizing over the decision of which machine to purchase and from where for weeks or months, I feel like I'm nearly the consultant that SHE is on these. It's very strong, very powerful, and apparently Janome warrants these for life (do your own research on that, sounds too good to be true...) It's SO strong that the sewing table I made for her is now going to need another layer of 3/4" ply, because it vibrates crazily under certain conditions of load and speed. While I learned to sew like an amateur as a kid and later still as an amateur in theatrical costume shop, and got used to all machines (other than high-speed commercial type) working about the same, these have some key differences in needle-threading and bobbin-winding (which I'll say my wife is happy with - not yet had the chance myself, and she's jealously guarding it...)Also learned that "Janome" is not pronounced as it appears: it's really "ja-NO-meh," because it's of Japanese origin: the name "...means 'eye of the snake.' The company earned the name in the 1920s when founder Yosaku Ose, a pioneer in Japanese sewing manufacturing, began to use a round metal bobbin system instead of the traditional long shuttle."

Great machine! Sews through several layers of denim. Glad I bought it!
I'm a 70 Year old man with great big fingers and this this machine works like a charm for me. I'm not a a sewer but even I have figured out how to stitch up some pants hems. Great machine!

Defective unit??
Janome has a great reputation and my old Janome worked great for 25 years. Seems like it should be a great machine. Got it and tried it. The mechanism was stiff. The motor would hum long before the needle would move, then, when the gears start to turn, it runs fast. Can't run slow. Acts like the gears are binding. Ran it more to try to loosen the gears when the whole thing froze up. I suspect this is simply a defective unit and hopefully not indicative of the brand or this model. Good thing Amazon has a good return policy.

Excellent machine
I am very happy with my Janome HD5000. Previously I had a New Home machine that is made by Janome. Had it 5 years and wore out the needle bar, and couldn’t find the replacement part. All of the bobbins and feet fit this new machine. It is much quieter than I’m use to. It has 18 stitches which is more than I will use but I learned how to do the overcast stitch today to finish the raw edges of my zipper pouches. It has a nice “real” instruction manual. I love the see thru bobbin, which was on my must have list. No complaints from this sewist. From my experience so far (3 days) I would highly recommend. ❤️

Nice machine for the price
I have been using this machine for one week. I purchased this as a back up for my Bernina, but have been sewing on this one for a week. Very easy to use and set up. I have not tried sewing anything really heavy yet. The only complaint I have is the bobbin loading; the thread is not very uniform and sometimes winds around the side post, causing the thread to be very loose on the bobbin. But the machine still works. The other issue I have had seems to depend on how I thread the top of the machine. The lower thread is very loose and knotted. I rethread the top of the machine and it works just fine.I purchased this machine to sew through really heavy fabric. I have not tried that yet but so far I have confidence in this machine.

Very nice sewing machine
This is a very nice machine. I had a very similar machine previously, and it lasted many years. It has all the stitches you need but no embroidery. It's strong and reliable. Easy to thread. I did a lot of research before I decided to purchase basically the same machine again.
