Enjoyed it very much
My dog is Anatolian and they have all the same behaviors, size and needs of the Kangal dog, this book was very true to the breed. Enjoyed it very much. Glad to see people giving an honest description of the breed. It isn't a dog for everyone but if you take the time and make the effort and most of all understand what they are all about you will have a loyal protector. Thanks to Mr. Burston.

The Kangal Dog: a book for seekers of an ancient breed
This book is a source of great knowledge of what Kangal dogs are and what to expect in life with them. It is a precautionary book for people unfamiliar with the breed. . It serves a great purpose.

More info in raising the Kangal as a proper LGD would have been preferred.
I would have given this a 4.5 star had the author given us more tips on raising the Kangal as an LGD. This book focuses more on turning the Kangal into a companion pet. Most people that buy LGDs want it to be used as originally intended and we would like to learn more about that rather than converting my LGD into a companion pet.

Four Stars
Good reference guide for the breed, but short on dietary info based on breed history and unusual needs

I learned a lot
Short , ( some content repetitive) , easy to read book . I am a first time Kangal owner . I read whatever I find . This book summed it all.

Not a Helpful Book
My Kangal is 12 years old, and I read the on line sample of this book, It was wrong about several things, for instance, that most Kangal Dogs are companions - they are actually mostly working as herd guardians. It was vague about important things like what age to get a puppy, and didn't cover the important reasons most people should Not have a Kangal, certainly not as a first dog - because Kangals bark loudly at any disturbance and are too big, strong and aggressive to other dogs, as they are bred to keep large predators, wolves, bears, cheetahs away from stock animals. These dogs are appropriate only for owners very experienced with large or giant working dogs.Livestock Guardians by Jan Dohner is a much more useful reference book, or her new Farm Dogs. dr bob
