The Cadillac of pencil sharpeners!
This is the absolute best pencil sharpener that I have ever used, and I have used many (my spouse was an elementary school teacher and I sharpened pencils for her!) I had thought that the Carl Angel 5 was good, but this is smoother, heftier and has the selectable point shape, in addition. It is a pleasure to use and exudes care in design and craftsmanship. If you are a pencil nerd, buy this sharpener!

Best pencil sharpener EVER!
I rarely leave reviews but this pencil sharpener is among the top best things I have ever purchased. I am not even kidding. We for years used sub-par color pencil and school pencil sharpeners. Then we came across this baby. You ask yourself is it really worth the money and does it really work? The answer is a resounding YES! It lets you select the pencil tip sharpness and sharpens so smoothly it is actually amazing, even for cheap color pencils or lead pencils. You will not regret this purchase. If I had to give you a CON it is only that it does not stop sharpening even when the pencil tip is just microns thin. You have to check it or you could sharpen a long pencil down to a nub. But that drawback is so small compared to the PRO’s that it is a very enthusiastic thumbs up! Get it.

Best classroom sharpener, minor learning curve - review of a classroom high school teacher.
The pencil sharpener was beautiful! It makes perfectly sharp pencils....AND it can also (if you wish) make a duller pencil. It has yet to fail to make the perfectly sharpened pencil. The only minor problem that I had was that there is a very minor learning curve to how to use it. It isnt as easy as just put in the pencil and sharpen. You have to load the pencil, then pull out the loader, and then normally sharpen. It is more quiet than regular classroom sharpeners and electric sharpeners, but it is more loud than a handheld small sharpener.Aside from the minor amount of noise and the minor learning curve (which can challenge students the first time they use it) it is by far the best sharpener I've ever used. The efficiency of the sharpener far surpasses the minor downsides of it.

Good pencil sharpener
Bought it to replace the Mitsubishi my kids destroyed. This is sturdier. Like the clear plastic hopper for shavings. The pencil tip sharpness adjustment works. Sharpens very rapidly and with excellent finish. Let's hope the cutters last! It is unfortunately made in China.

A Very "Sharp" Pencil Sharpener
I admit it, I'm a pencil nerd. Do you know what Blackwing or Musgrave pencils are? These are among some quality pencil lines that deserve a quality pencil sharpener. I have another less expensive Carl sharpener and it does just fine, but this model is really "sharp." Made of colorful sturdy metal, this is a real value. You can adjust for the sharpness you desire and it has a large collection bin that is easy to empty. For heavy-duty users, it comes with a clamp that you can attach to your desk. There's nothing like a good sharp pencil to make your daily note-taking tasks more palatable. The Carl CC-2000 is a good value for those of us who like pencils and want to keep them sharp.

Best Pencil Sharpener I've Ever Used
Smooth operation, nicely centered, excellent tips, won't damage the lacquer. Actually my favorite pencil sharpener.Important info: OK, you know the part that holds the pencil while it sharpens? When you pull that out, it stays in place, so you don't have to juggle it AND squeeze the levers to open the jaws AND insert the pencil. You can do the whole operation with only two hands. Not all sharpeners do this, and those that do don't always advertise it. This one does. Also the jaws are plastic coated or something so they won't chew up your pencil. You love to see it.Size info: some mini jumbos are OK, some aren't. Jumbos are right out, they're too big. Recommend the fancy Dahle 166 for those.Hex pencils work best, round ones can spin some (remember, plastic coated jaws) but that's really only an issue on the first sharpen... Just reinsert and it'll finish the job on the second pass.

Had high hopes - VERY dissapointed
I read many reviews of this pencil sharpener and so many GOOD reviews. I had high hopes of this being a good product. The sharpener is very good looking and feels substantial. Unfortunately I had a problem with the very first pencil I sharpened. I sharpened a #2 yellow pencil that we all have around the house. I inserted the pencil into the sharpener and started to turn the crank. The crank did not turn smoothly and the back of the pencil wobbled as I cranked. When I stopped and tried to remove the pencil it was stuck in the sharpener and I had to pull it out.I removed the sharpening mechanism from the back of the sharpener to see what the problem was. I turned the crank as I held it outside the sharpener body and could see the entire mechanism wobble. The sharpener I received was very poorly made. After inserting the crank and mechanism back into the sharpener I took 3 Prismacolor pencils and set the dial to give me a short point (and didn't touch the settings after that). The first pencil point was longer than expected. The second pencil was as expected. The third pencil was extremely sharp. After sharpening a few more #2 yellow pencils and having the sharpener chew up the wood near the point on one pencil and breaking off the lead while sharpening another I put the sharpener in it's box and returned it to Amazon.I realize I may have received a defective sharpener. I don't like to write reviews like this but I don't like getting a defective product either. I don't know if the fact that it is made in China is the problem, or if it's the company's quality control standards. I won't try a Carl product again.
