Corn is Maize book

Bought for grandson to read for school

Not for younger children

My grandson is a student in a kindergarten class at a Christian school. His teacher asked me to make a presentation to the class since I am a retired teacher who still loves to dress up in costume and speak in classrooms. This book is very well done and has a great deal of excellent content about corn/maize. However, there are drawings of Native American women who obviously have no clothing covering their breasts. Because of the drawings (even though they are accurate for the time period), this was not the book I wanted. Even though I was able to use much of the material in my presentation, I was not able to read the book to the students as I planned. That is the one drawback about shopping online--one cannot view all the pages of the book before purchasing.

This would work well in a classroom

This book will inspire readers from very young through budding biologists. The colourful artwork will keep the young ones interested, while the depth of information works well with older kids and tweens.

sweet picture book

This book is great read with the kids to introduce a culture and the origins of...corns! Eating corn in the summer nights has been one of our family tradition so I wanted to have a children's book on corns for my little nephews when they visit in the summer time. It talks about the origins of corn that started over 5,000 years ago in Mexico and with the American Indians. It is a great book on the world of corns and the nourishment it brought for people of the Americas.

Love this book

I had a copy of this book as a child - one of my favorites. It is still a great combo of information and interest, I think. Bought it for my son & he couldn't wait to read it!

Learn more about corn!

This is a wonderful book about corn that even adults can learn from. Although most the pages within are black and while. The pictures are still enjoyable for children, and the simple text that explains the history of corn and how we use it today is wonderful!
