Western Digital WD 4TB My Passport Portable Hard Disk Drive,Compatible with Windows and Mac, External HDD-Black

The media could not be loaded. I create YouTube videos for my wife's cooking channel and storage has been a big want for us. I have a WD MyCloud 2TB with a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus as a backup and both required power, but I need a 4TB portable hard disk and ended up in buying this Western Digital 4TB My Passport Portable hard disk (New Edition) for Rs.8198.------------------------------------------------📦 IN THE BOX & HDD CONTENTS------------------------------------------------◾ 4TB Blue Portable Harddisk in a bubble case◾ Superspeed USB cable◾ Quick Install Guide◾ WD Discovery software for WD Backup◾ WD Security and WD Drive Utilities----------------------------------------🗓️ MY USAGE & EXPERIENCE----------------------------------------The product has been manufactured in Thailand and imported to India and this New Edition WD My Passport is supposed to have lesser failures and supposed to be more robust than the previous version.Upon connecting 3.63TB was free and 297MB was used by the formatting of the disk which stores the disk geometry that allows hard disk to accept, store, and retrieve data. The hard disk was formatted with NTFS.This hard disk fits inside the palm of the hand and is quite small for a 4TB, 10.7cm length, 7.5cm breadth and 1.8cm depth, and is not heavy too.Being a portable hard disk, it doesn’t require any power. I was able to connect it with my Xbox, WD MyCloud, Laptop and Desktop with ease and it detects quite fast.The write speeds were at 110 MB/s in actual and read speeds was around 115 MB/s. The disk reports were also almost similar at 120-127 MB/s. (see attached report). But the speeds changes depending on the free disk space, how much the disk is fragmented and whether there are any bad sectors, etc. This is quite impressive in my opinion.I didn't see any heating up issues with this new edition and temperature always remained under 37 degree C even under heavy writes in my testing with room temperature around 27- degree C.The WD Discovery software is super cool, it can import files from social media and maintain a backup. Just need to sign into Facebook or Instagram or Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive. It can also take a backup from WD MyCloud devices.The WD Security app provides a way to setup a password for the hard disk and contents can be encrypted, so when data is written it's encrypted and when data is read it's decrypted when password is used. I haven't tried any brute force recovery of data on this disk yet but the encryption seems to be good enough for home use. I didn't set the password as if password is forgotten I can't recover it back and only way to re-use the disk is by formatting.The hard disk has a small led indicator which can be turned off from the WD Discovery settings if required.I was able to backup all my YouTube video edits with ease and quickly, also was able to back up my Dropbox.I don't see any cons as of now, and since I haven't contacted the customer service I can't comment on that part.-------------------------💖 WHAT I LIKED-------------------------◾ 3 years warranty◾ Good looking and light weight◾ Automatic backup, Password protection + 256bit Encryption◾ Fast read and write speeds-------------------🥇 OVERALL-------------------A great hard disk at a good pricing. This new edition should be more stable and when take care well like not moving the hard disk while it being used, doing a safe eject of the hard disk, not dropping etc. this hard disk should last longer in my perspective, only time will tell. Overall am happy with my purchase as it meets my expectations.

It's been only 10 days and used it to transfer 64gb for now.. so i have not used it enough..i would update this after some days.. my relative bought seagate onetouch (Its best competitor) so i would compare it with it..**SPEED**Multiple Photos (32gb): Got 105 mbps max but 95 consistent..Single file(4.2gb):Got 117mbps max and it was more or less consistent..The onetouch reached 133mbps for multiple big files.. didnt check it further..**BUILD**It is very sleek and lightweight.. for sure.. but it does not feel very premium.. it is plastic all around.. you can definitely feel the vibration of the platters while file transfer..the onetouch was very premium feeling..metal and plastic body.. and i could feel its vibrations.. but it was much less than passport.. ( the passport is slimmer and shorter than onetouch ... maybe thats why..**SOFTWARE**My experience has not been much good.. i could not register my product for some days.. the screen got white and did not show anything.. there is no free backup software.. you are asked to backup on gdrive, dropbox or onedrive.. no recovey tool included.. i think it is a paid service ..not sure about the last one..cant say about the software experience on onetouch.. didnt see it.. but it includes 3 months adobe cc if you are into this..**RELIABILITY**Now the big part.. This is the only reason i bought this one.. otherwise i would no doubt go for the onetouch.. seagate drives tend to fail twice as much as wd drives.. so i could not take risk.. many claim seagate has now learnt from their mistake and d is falling behind by staying in the top spot.. cant say about the first sentence, but quite sure about the second..**MISC**Came with no bubble wrap.. only a plastic tray which was maybe well enough..cable could be a bit better..onetouch's one had grip for pulling it out and seemed better..Has fine texture on body so no fingerprint..onetouch and this one both are same price.. you can go for anyone of these..Sorry for the long review.. But i wanted to tell the buyers the complete story.. would update my review later..

It's incredible! 6TB in such a small form factor. Sometimes you need a lot of capacity, and until this little drive came along it either didn't exist in such a small form factor, or it cost a small fortune. This Western Digital My Passport drive changed all of that. 6 TB in a form factor about the size of a pack of playing cards, and at an affordable price. Perfect for large photo libraries and media collections, and it fits in the palm of your hand. Very handy! I use two of these drives for my media files - one for backup and the other attached to a Roku Ultra via USB to "stream" to my TV. This drive works great for both.

I got this to store my recorded videos of my airsoft events and it is super helpful. I have a few hundred hours saved on this drive and still have space for more. It's super compact and the files transfer back and forth quickly. It makes no noise and I don't notice any heating up when plugged in or in use.

Our IT person has us switch out our drives regularly and she is the one who picked these out. They come in a variety of colors which is fun though unnecessary. They work well and seem durable. They’re thick and appears as if dropped, they would survive. Our files upload quickly and easily.

Happy with this drive. Some don't work for Mac without a big setup.
