Still made as well as it was 25 years ago
I was so happy to be able to replace my at least 25 year old Sunline clothesline with an exact match here in 2025! It seems to be as well-made and well-working as my old one, one of the few items I've bought that hasn't been cheapness. The only difference is this one is bright white and I like that. I have always taken the unit off the garage and stored it inside in the winter but otherwise it's out in all the other 3 seasons. I still like to hang sheets. Nothing smells better.

An AMAZING product that does the job!!!
I purchased a clothesline just like this, approximately 20 years ago. I grew up in the country and hanging clothes on the line was one of my chores. As an adult, I continue that task and hang clothes on the line spring, summer, and fall. (I love taking advantage of the breeze from the open fields). - When my retractable clothesline finally broke, after being outside exposed to the elements for 20 years, I wanted to find one just like it and Amazon didn't disappoint! I didn't have to change the mounting or anything. I took the broken one down and just hung the new one. - This product is so useful and saves you money on electricity (and unless you're in politics or are ridiculously rich, who couldn't use that?). I give it 5 stars and would give it more if I could!

Great clothesline
This is my third Sunline. The first lasted many years. The second only four, and this one...we shall see. I live in a harsh and brutal climate where the sun destroys all sorts of things. I think the heat is what caused my last one to lose the plastic coating on the the lines. They cracked, broke off and the fibers were exposed on the lines. One line broke. I got this on sale, it fit exactly like the old one so I didn't need to do any install, just hooked both ends. Some careful adjusting of the lines was required to take up the slack. This is important for even tension, and is done on the end that hooks into the bracket, not the housing.I can get four, sometimes five loads at a time to dry for free in the sun. Nothing smells better than fresh off the line sheets and towels!I have no idea how long this will last, but it's a great clothesline for the price.

Very handy
Need a good size and fit for hanging clothes, this one is the right choice, it's solid and the materials are long lasting...is the 2nd I purchased over years.

Great so far.
Seems a little premature for a review. Amazon should ask you for one maybe two years later or something. But the unit is mounted and I've used it once. Seems great. Just what I was looking for. Works like it says it does. Retracts well. Tightens well. I'm thrilled with it as it enables laundry on rainy days since you can mount it indoors and it's totally out of the way when you're not using it yet easily deploys when you need it. (I live off grid and don't own a dryer so this thing is a huge upgrade in my system.) It looks tidy on the wall so for me it's a good indoor choice although some people might not agree. It sort of looks like they started making these in the 50s and never changed a thing. You could say it has a bit of a retro look maybe? I like it. But function first: it seems like it's going to last and do its job well. Ask me in a couple years, amazon!

So far, so good
Wasn't sure how to really rate this product as I live in sunny Jamaica where we are accustomed to a traditional backyard clothesline with posts at both ends. But my family does a lot of entertaining in our backyard and each time we entertained we had to take the lines off the posts so they wouldn't become a hindrance to our guest (a very tedious task). So I decided to get a retractable clothesline. We also had to purchase the 3-piece clothesline post (did a separate review for this) as our fence was not high enough for the receiving bracket. My son had to install a backboard before putting up the unit to create a flat surface as our wall had indentations. The unit is quite heavy and cumbersome to install (good thing my son is pretty handy in this area). If it falls, those plastic parts will definitely be broken. They should try to make the casing and knobs from metal. My disappointment with this product is that I can never get ALL the lines taut all at once. However, I rated it 4 stars because the delivery was on time, it came in good condition, and so far it has held up nicely with 3 sets of sheets and a large load of towels. I try to hang lighter items, such as underwear on the sagging lines. Hopefully, it continues to hold up for many more laundry days. I'll post a pic soon.

A terrific clothesline that's easy to set-up and takedown.
This is our 2nd 17145-1 Aluminum Retractable Clothesline. The first one lasted 25 years and was still going strong, except the plastic clotheslines were getting soiled-looking (we live in coastal Oregon and mildew is an issue in the winter). Installation is a breeze: two bolts at each end to mount the main unit and the receiver, then a simple procedure to equalize initial tension on each line, and you're done. Pull the head out of the main unit and latch it over the receiver, then turn the big knob on the main unit to tighten and lock the line tension, hang your clothes. When they're dry, take them down, release the lock button on the main unit, unhook the head from the receiver and wind the lines back into the main unit. You're done. Two minutes tops. Depending on where you install it (ours is on a covered rear deck) we suggest setting the mounting height two or three inches above the tallest family member. From the outside, the new unit appers to be identical to the old one, so we're hoping it'll go 25 years too :-). We highly recommend this product.
