Thank you for this book
After reading online how celery is good for just everything I started to add it to my cooking and suddenly got a very serious sunburn, which is very unusual for me. Blaming it on aging I began to look for a natural sunscreen and noticed that some people who are on celery juice regimen are also looking for natural sunscreens. After a deeper research I found this book. Before I couldn’t even imagine that just eating food, like celery, can cause photosensitivity and sunburns. After more online search I found out that celery, especially raw, has more toxins and doesn’t really have more of good staff compare to other vegetables. Even grocery workers complain about dermatitis on their hands after just touching celery. There’s a list of other foods that can cause photosensitivity in the book but it seems I have reaction only to celery and it took several months to get back to normal. I’m very grateful to Dr. Hershoff. If I didn’t find this book I would be really miserable because I love sun and know that sunscreens are very damaging for our environment.

Benefits and Perils of Celery and family Consumption
Who knew? Obviously Dr Asa Hershoff! This is an excellent book of research, common-sense information about discerning claims and balance. Loaded with information on food and medicinal understandings of various foods, spices & herbs, the reader is lead along an easy conversation to better understand what their choices are and what benefits and perils are of having too much of some of these items, especially celery, as discussed in the book.I have read other books by Dr Hershoff and found all of them easy to read and comprehend, and always complete with references of scientific research so you can learn more and see the scientific evidence behind his very well-thought-out and easily accessible presentation of information.I highly recommend this book to increase your knowledge and understanding of what you are consuming, the pros and cons. And what a surprise about the Hippocrates quote as well!I highly recommend this book.

Thorough and Clear Facts
Dr. Asa Hershoff's book is actually a great reference for anything fad or trend driven. Thoroughly researched, the book offers a balanced and clear perspective on how we need to approach anything that we bring into our lives. Not a naysayer but a voice of reason to bring clarity to our health and life choices. I have read his other books and they offer the same type of depth of insight and information. Please take the time to get the fact and make informed choices.

One-sided book with absolutely no specific case studies mentioned!
I was about to use celery juice as a healing modality when I came across this book on amazon and ordered it. I began reading it and had almost decided not to use celery juice because of this authors one-sided information on all the dangerous consequences of drinking large amounts of celery juice (even associating it with poisons), but then I thought about how this author didn't offer even one specific case study for all these dangerous consequences. I then decided to try it, drinking two full cups of fresh organic celery juice every day and, BOY, I am I glad I did! The first day, my digestion and bowel movements improved dramatically and have remained that way. Also, many symptoms (including having tremendous trouble sleeping and other health issues) started to improve from day one! I now sleep 7 to 8 hours a night! I would advise anyone who is considering using celery juice for healing purposes or for general good health to not buy this book! It fills your mind with a lot of negative thoughts while using the guise of giving you all this detailed scientific evidence but without any actual case studies!

Medicine or Food
This book clarifies the difference between a medicine and a food. It showes that celery was a medicine which is now thought of as a food. The book also showes that if consumed in large quantities celery can cause many health issues. Of particular interest to me was the fact that celery is added to bacon because it contains nitrites and nitrates. This has lead to a change in the bacon I consume reducing my cancer risk. Many thanks to Asa.

Gives the flip side (dangers) of the celery juice craze
While the celery juice detox seems to be good for most people, it’s not for everyone. This gives a balanced view to the diet and some of the dangers associated with ingesting large amounts of the juice every day.
