Bonafide Cajun review
Born and raised in Thibodaux I explicitly went looking for something made from home and would actually be what I needed it to be. I admit my mamaw would die if she knew I took this short cut for my roux but unlike her I actually have a full time job outside the home plus the kids. With that being said….I believe this is fairly priced and it’s a legit roux. This is helpful for anyone who doesn’t have 3-4 hours at the stove constantly stirring to make their own. Yes the oil separates from it and it can be a real pain to stir and incorporate it (especially after the first use when you have to put it in the fridge) but I still consider this an absolute gem for the fall and winter when I want my chicken and sausage or seafood gumbo

My maternal grandparents where from Czechoslovakia and made stuffed cabbage and vegetable soup using a dark roux. My brother came for a visit last week and I made "Fast Pig". I just created a broth base using the Roux, added raw chopped cabbage, onion and the hamburger-rice, & spices. It was delicious,

Savoie’s Roux
Being a Cajun from Louisiana, I shipped the roux to my daughter in Los Angeles, instead of trying to explain to her how to make a good old Cajun roux from scratch. This roux from Savoie’s is the next best replacement. Now I will explain how to make the roux my grandmother passed down to my mom, and my mom to me, and now me to my daughter.

This jar was apparently stored on its side and the flour separated and settled into a solid mass.
Due to the jar being stored on its side the flour and oil separated and couldn’t be used.Please issue a refund.

Good product, lousy packaging.
I give the roux 5 stars, but the packaging 0 stars as one of the bottles was broken and the roux leaked into the box. I couldn't figure out how to request a refund, so I'm out that money. I love Savoie's dark roux, but am unable to get it where we live in Tennessee. I've been ordering it from Amazon since 2019 when we moved here from Louisiana. This is the first time I've received a broken bottle and I hope it's the last as I'm ordering 2 more bottles today.
