Nice sounding and well built speaker
This speaker is a very nice replacement for any relatively stiff suspended PA, monitor or guitar amp speaker. The finish is very nice, the basket has a solid structure and its performing well so far. I replaced woofers from Klipsch from the professional series and I can't complain. At higher levels dont expect anything voluminous below 100Hz, this isnt the right speaker for any Sub applications. The way this speakers sounds depends laregely on the housing and the amp and under good conditions you get a nice presence and a powerfull low medium range. I selected a passive crossover of 3.5Khz for the high cut-off (in the 2-way speaker cabinet) and an active 150Hz filter for the lower part (set on the amp) so that the speaker only has to handle 150-3500Hz. It does that well and it works fine for me, the price makes it a smoking deal.

Decent Replacement Woofer/Mid-Bass Driver
OK first off, the product description is somewhat wrong. When people think of sub-woofers, they think low-frequency bass (usually around 30-120Hz range), and these speakers can handle somewhat lower frequences, but I wouldn't really use them as a "sub"woofer. If you're looking for a true sub, I'd spend the extra $20 and get like an entry-level Kicker or Inifinity reference sub. Now, where do these speakers come into play where they work decently? Well, right off the bat at 8ohm, you can usually tell these aren't usual car subwoofers. They're replacement home-audio speakers (which are typically 8ohm). Car subs tend to be 2-4ohm (but not always, refer to your amp and method of hookup). On the box these even just state they are "woofers" not subs.I used these to replace a completely blown and shredded woofer in a Sony floor speaker that was given to me by my sister, model SS-U4033. I don't know where she had kept them but one had almost no cone left is was so deterioated. Anyways, all I did was pop out the old woofer and pop in this pyramid woofer, connected the wires and that was it. The sound is decent, they actually don't distort or sound boomy with some power going through them (a yamaha reciever was used, HTR-5230). There is no crossover built in, so these try to play the full-range (you will hear mids and even highs with this woofer), I think if I purchased a passive crossover that might help, but meh, it works fine as-is. For the audiophile aspect, these are terrible, obviously. While they don't distort, and carry a tune with some decent range, they sound rather meh, like sound has a slight film put over it (could be the cheap paper cone). I don't know the best way to describe it, they're fine in handling frequencies and producing the sound, they just don't sound as "full" or good-quality as a nice woofer-midbass would. Put into a cabinet (which helped immensely) for a 3-way speaker, in a 5.1 surround system however, and they really aren't too bad/noticeable, and fill what was missing from the blown woofer at least. The other use I could see them used for, and others have mentioned, is to replace blown speakers in little practice amps for guitars. While the sound is a little off for the full music range, I could see these sounding nice and crunchy for a distorted guitar sound, and since they can take some abuse they should handle it easily. So, if you're looking to replace a blown woofer on the cheap, or replace a blown pratice amp speaker, I think the cost is more than justified. Not amazing, of course, but "amazing" speakers cost 5-10x as much. If you're looking for a car sub, look elsewhere; this probably isn't even the right impedance for starters, and is doubtful to handle as well as dedicated subs.

Decent for the price, not a subwoofer.
Using them as temporary replacement woofers in a pair of Realistic MC-1400 2-way speakers. They do fine for low to medium-high-ish sound levels, but anything too high and they start to distort fairly badly. If youre looking for a boomy bass, these are not for you. This is just a woofer, not a subwoofer so dont expect lots of bass out of it. Great for the price and seem to do well in their new cabinets. (mine are filled with cotton)

Picture is misleading! Only 4 mounting holes!
The only reason I purchased this was due to the appearance of 8 mounting holes for an old co-ax application replacement, and who wants to take a power drill anywhere near a speaker cone? You get what you pay for. I spit in the face of danger, and ended up drilling and fudged it together. Just a waste of another hour and future rattles I was trying to avoid. Can anyone tell me why the gasket has 8 holes and the frame only has 4? Probably just to fool saps like me. I swear I can still see "white space" behind at least 7 of the "fake holes" in the photo. Am I blind or something? Maybe someone can explain. I'll check back and see if the picture changes. (Yeah sure-like big brother actually reads these reviews-he just counts stars and likes.) I'm batting about 50% on Amazon purchases and wish that brick and mortar sources were still available for this stuff. I remember when you could pick up a 10" Eminence for less than $12.00 at a local supply shop and actually look at it before you cracked open your wallet. And I'm in the 3rd largest city in the US! Ahhh..the good old days...

It's not a bad woofer
I bought these to use in my Advent graduate boxs while I refoam the originals. They sound pretty good, definitely good for the price. Bass isn't as deep as I normally like but, I'm using them in an unported box so that might make a difference. Over all it's a good speaker

They are sold as subwoofers but are not
Even tough the description says that they're subwoofers, they are not. The frequency response is not of a subwoofer but they do sound great with a 50w per channel amp. This work ok if you use a cabinet with a powered subwoofer as a reinforcement. 3 stars because of the misleading label of "subwoofer"

It's worth the cheap price.
I bought this to replace a 6 oem speaker in a Yamaha subwoofer, I was worried it wouldn't go to well because the powered sub is suppose to output 85 watts, but this speaker works great. It's a little cheap sounding compared to the original but for this price it's a compromise well worth taking. Hits 50hz OK but does good around 100hz, for this house sub anyway.
