If you attach the USB-A end of the cable to a USB-A gen 3.1 port when the enclosure is attached to the other end, the computer may get confused and connect to it as a slower USB 2 device. There are no restrictions when connecting to a USB-C gen 3.2 port. NOTE. This is NOT a Thunderbolt but it will function at USB 3.2 gen 2 speeds if attached to a Thunderbolt 3 port.
