Being an old "Tincan" Navy Bosun from the mid 60s, I learned to tie Turk's Heads on my hand or around an object like a lifeline stanchion. A couple years ago I repaired a broken twisted cherry walking stick in a local wilderness using some half hitch wrappings and a couple of Turks Heads. If they work mending a split spar or mast, then they work to mend a walking stick. The mandrel is nice and makes up to an 8.5" 7 bite Turk's Head. Still, do learn to make them without a mandrel. They aren't as difficult as you might think, neither is expanding them to make them longer. BTW the walking stick lasted for a few more hikes that summer -- just remember a repaired spar, mast or walking stick is just a temporary fix.

This Mandrel is awesome! helps make woggle knots and turks head knots in several flavors and combinations! While the product does not necessarily need an instruction manual, however it would be great if some variations for creativity were included. Overall, GREAT product that makes the creation of turks head knots very easy!

FRUSTRATION: (noun) The feeling of being upset or annoyed, especially because of inability to change or achieve something.... /.2" jig is patterned for a 9 bite knot. I needed the 2" size, but NOT the 9 bites. I needed 3 bites. I figured it would be a simple matter to scale it down... WRONG!... After HOURS and HOURS of frustration to do this, I finally calmed myself enough to step outside, walk to the edge of my yard, and sling this *&#=$ contraption, just as far down into the woods as I could sling it. After that, I walked back inside. Poured myself a nice glass of wine, and sat in my easy chair, to contemplate on going back to watching YouTube videos on how to ACTUALLY tie the knot.

The use is fairly self explanatory. However for the price paid I think there should have been some instructions. Instructions on how to make the weave smaller, larger, and how to finish it when the weave is removed from the dowel.
