Nice But Strong Almond Scent, and Too Expensive
I'm 61 and I started really looking after my skin a lot more in the last year. Until then, I had great skin but now I'm getting a few issues (dry patches, etc) as well as the inevitable wrinkles (I refuse to use Botox) so I figured it's time to help my skin look and be it's best.Because of that, it's darn near impossible for me to review a serum or cream as far as how well it works because I have so many great products now that have transformed my skin and taken about 5 yrs off of the wrinkles (I was even asked by a client if I did Botox or other expensive Spa treatments because of how much my wrinkles have gone down). But as a Massage Therapist I also study ingredients in anything I put on my skin so I review more on general impression and ingredients in my reviews.I will say I like the way the serum feels and it absorbs nicely into the skin. The scent however is VERY strong (definitely not for the "scensitive" folks out there). I don't have this issue and I find the scent to almost be too much for me.Ingredients-wise:Glycerin: As the #2 ingredient (after Water, which is the normal #1 ingredient for most skin care products) I find this really disappointing given the price of this product ($100 at the time of review). It's a CHEAP way to add the impression of moisturizing effects when it's really just a barrier that sits on your skin. I'm surprised how nice this product feels given that there's so much Glycerin in it and I can only assume it's because the other top 3 or 4 ingredients must make up the majority of the product (I wish that all products also included percentage of the quantity of ingredients...which is important in skin care). Either way, I docked a star for this as there's no way a product that uses Glycerin in such quantities is worth $100.Sodium hyaluronate: is the water-soluble sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid. Most forms of pure hyaluronic acid are too large to even penetrate deeply into the skin to be used. This is where sodium hyaluronate comes in handy as it can penetrate deeply into the skinCollagen Peptides: Collagen peptides are made by breaking down full-length collagen molecules. Because they’re shorter than regular collagen, they can more easily enter the top layer of the skin when applied topically, or the bloodstream in the case of oral supplements. Most collagen peptides on the market contain collagen extracted from hides, bones, or fish scales so this may not be something a Vegetarian or Vegan may want to use depending on your reasons for that dietary choice.Plant Stem Cells: There's a lot of cool information out there about this cosmeceutical ingredient. Skin Stem Cells begin to regenerate more slowly as part of the aging process which causes wrinkles, skin discoloration, and the potential for some cells to become cancerous. Plant Stem Cells are one way to help your skin cells to slow the aging process. The scientific article I used to research this ingredient claims that the plants with the richest amount of phyto stem cells are grape, lilac and Swiss apple. The only one of these plants in this product is the Swiss Apple stem cells. So without researching each individual one, I can't say much except that this is a legit ingredient but effectiveness may vary depending on the origin plant.I could write a lot more on other ingredients (and I suggest that you start to research for yourself...knowledge is power!) but suffice it to say that while I don't dislike the ingredients, I am not convinced that they justify the price. I have a number of other serums I'm using that contain a lot more reliable ingredients that I'm using (PDRN is one example) that I'm willing to pay more for...as it is, given the price vs ingredients, (and the overpowering scent), I wouldn't purchase again.
