Lowrance ELITE-3X DSI Color Sonar 455/800kHz Fishfinder

Love this sonar .I only use it for bottom contour detection and not the idea that you find fish with it, the cone catches fish up to 80 feet away from your boat depending on the depth of fish , trust me it's not under your boat just because it's on screen. This product . ut is great I highly recommend it. Would give 6 stars if screen was bigger.

Works well in brighter light and has a good display of what is underwater. The structure detail is very good. I have only used it in water from 2 or 3 feet down to the low 20's range so I can't give a full review yet but I am happy with it so far. Keep in mind that the shallower the water is, the less likely you are to actually locate fish due to the small amount of water the transducer is actually covering. That doesn't mean the fish are not there.

Display looks good, though not nearly as good as the simulation makes it look. Started having trouble with it soon after installation. Depth indication would go to .5 or 0 and stay there. Re-setting the depth range from auto to a manual depth would sometimes help. Couldn't predict when it would go bad. Lowrance sent me a replacement display unit, for a 20 dollar fee, same problem. They said it is probably the transducer, and they would send me one. It did not arrive so I called again and now they say they won't have any until at least May (this on April 8th). It is too late to return the whole thing so It looks like I am out of luck. Don't buy, The DSI is nothing special and I suspect the reason they are out of transducers is because they have had to replace a lot of them.

I have installed this in two different locations on the back of my boat and still I cannot get a good reading of depth. Even at no-wake speeds I do not get an accurate reading of the depth of the water. It goes up and down from 0.5ft to 4ft in a channel that I know is about 4ft deep. Once you are going above no-wake speeds there is no speed reading at all. Had to pay to have this professionally installed and moved for a second time, what do I do now ? Continue to put holes in the back of my boat until I hope that it works like it should ? I am so upset about this piece of junk , I don't know if it's faulty since I don't want to spend another $100 to have it installed again just to have it verified this is a waste of money.

This fishfinder works great in my fishing kayak. The detail it gives on the bottom is excellent.It is important that people realize the difference between this (downscan imaging) and a traditional fishfinder. This will not show you all the fish under you. It does occasionally pick up bigger fish, especially if they are near the bottom, but in general the frequency is too high to pick up fish swimming around.What it does do is show you in very great detail the structure and makeup of the bottom of whatever water body you are on. I have had this out in lakes and rivers and creeks so far and have had great success with it everywhere.It has picked up individual rocks and plants up to 60 feet (my deepest so far) and as shallow as 2 feet.Be aware though that around the 2 foot mark and shallower you really cant make out much of anything, I guess there is just not enough water around it for it to be able to pick things up. I was in some areas that were 1.5 feet deep for example, and while the depth measurement was always perfectly accurate, I could not see any details about what was underneath me at that depth.2 or 3 feet deep and beyond though, the detail on this was extremely good. It may not pick up the fish themselves, but it lets you get into those honey holes easily and once you do that you should be able to easily catch without actually seeing the fish on the screen.Would recommend for anyone with a canoe or kayak that wants a good compact option.
