Nice hub for some peripheral devices.
I've had this hub for about a month now, after looking at many reviews and articles about a good hub to have. I am a student in graphic design and web design, so I have not only normal things such as phone and Kindle charging, I also have a graphic tablet, trackball mouse, bluetooth keyboard, and many different types of usb storage devices for files. (Of note, I work from a Gateway laptop with a Quad-core AMD processor and 8 GB of RAM.)Pros:Lots of ports.Small and light, so it's easy to keep it stowed out of the way.Has its own power source that doesn't draw from the computer.Frees up any other ports on my laptopCons:Does not do well when plugging in high-transfer devices such as iPhone or portable drives.I've also had an issue when using a smaller Flash drive (4GB). I often work on my website and all the files are placed on this drive, and when accessing and editing the files, using high RAM computer programs like Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator, the Hub will abruptly stop reading the Flash drive. When I remove the Flash drive from the Hub and place it directly into the computer, it will work perfectly without interruption.Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. The one fault I have found I can at least work around, and all other devices that I've plugged into this Hub have worked perfectly.

Ok I suppose
I have had two of these USB hubs for approximately 2 years (10/6/09) and am generally ok with them. Unfortunately the power supplied to the hubs is not that great (I have not tested it with a meter of any nature but only devices). If I plug in a small Western Digital USB hard drive and then my iphone, the drive crashes due to a lack of power (I have even tried using the double USB cable to provide more power to the drive and it has not helped). The design is fair I suppose, but on my desk they dont really want to stay standing up when you have all the usb ports full. Also, they should have been designed to be stackable if you have more than one.Lastly, one of my units now has 3 dead ports. Both the front ports and the top one on the back are no longer working. I will try to contact customer support about this but given it's a few months over 2 years, who knows. I expect to get at least 5 years out of any electronics that are taken care of.

Solid performer and easy to use
I bought this hub to replace a no-name hub that went belly-up and have been well pleased. It can operate as a powered or unpowered hub. It has 5 ports on the back, which I use for the things that stay plugged in all the time, and 2 convenient ports on the front for those things that only plug in occasionally. I have had it for almost 3 years and have no complaints with its function. The only thing that is a little irritating is that the hub has a tendency to rise up in front as the cables plugged into the back weigh it down. It would be nice to have some way to affix the bottom or weight it down to keep this from happening. It does not effect the performance of the hub, though.

Allows USB devices to be located far from computer and can work with international power adapters that you supply
Used with Tripp Lite 15 foot USB extension cable (P/N U022-015). Used with powered USB Hub (Tripp Lite U222-007-R) to allow USB bar code reader to be located far from computer. Plug on power adapter does not insert fully into receptacle, however it works fine. The supplied Power adaper is for USA only. I was able to use another power adapter for international applications, however I needed to buy a small cable to convert from the 5.5 mm plug on my international adapter to the 2.5 mm receptacle on the hub. The hub is diode-isloated to keep the power from the adapter from back-feeding into the USB port on the computer.

Very handy device.
I used another type of USB prot previously, but didn't like it because it would pull all over the place and was unstable, which caused the plugs to pull out causing innumerable problems. This Tripp Lite Hub is actually much better. The way it stands on the base makes it much more secure and stable. I have it right on top of my Mac computer tower, and I have had no problems. The wires don't easily pull out of it either and it actually contained a couple more ports than my previous one! For the average cost of this device, it is well worth it. I like it!

Reliable
I gave this 5 stars for one reason: RELIABILITYI've gone through quite a few external USB hubs. Most have had reliability problems -- if a USB device is directly connected to the computer it works, but not through the hub. This hub, on the other hand, has been a solid performer. Every device I attach will show up on the computer and works correctly. Additionally... I'm attaching this device on a telescope pier in the middle of an observatory and the computer controlling it is located on the other end of a 25' USB cable... and this hub STILL works reliably.Build quality looks and feels cheap... but I'll take reliable performance over build quality any day. After going through several hubs that weren't up to the task, this one is a winner.

Tripp Lite Hub
I was looking for a powered usb hub and this one was highly recommended and it works as advertised. I don't even know my usb devices are hooked into it. They work as if they were all plugged directly into the computer. The only thing I dislike is when my computer goes into the sleep mode the Tripp Lite Hub shuts down so anything plugged into it stops working. I would like to use one of its ports to charge my iPhone but the iPhone stops charging when my computer goes to sleep or is powered down. It would really be good if one port was dedicated as a charging port since the hub is plugged into an a/c outlet at all times.

Definitely a good USB Hub!
PROS:Great USB hub. Been using it for the past 2 months. Handles all my harddrives well (I primarily use powered harddrives). I even connect my stereo Yamaha HS5s to it and get the same quality if I connected to my computer directly. Quality product.CONS:Sits awkwardly on my desk. Because the USB ports are unevenly placed (5 in back and 2 in front), the wires in the back make this hub tilt backwards and not sit flat. They should provide some sort of stationing material (velcro, double sided adhesive, etc.)Otherwise, its a great product!

Overall I am happy with it so far
I bought this for my mac book pro since it only has 2 USB inputs. I currently have a mouse, Akai APC 40, Yamaha DGX 620 all running at same time working without any noticeable latency. It would be interesting to see if I could have all that running as well as my portable hard drive without any issues. Another thing I am doing is having this Hub plugged into the left input as I have my M-Audio audio interface plugged into the right USB input as I have read that the right input has more power to offer. It is nice and small, but as its name implies, it is indeed very light. I tried having it standing up as it is displayed on amazon, but decided it is better if I have it sideways. There is a square shape on the side that allows you to slide and lock it into the base so that it is laying horizontally instead of vertically. Seemed to add a bit more stability, but it still kinda lifts up a bit. When plugging in USB cables it doesn't feel as smooth as the inputs on my mac book pro, but I don't really know if that is something to be concerned about. At first I thought it was odd to have the power adapter input and USB output on the same side as the USB inputs, but doesn't seem to be causing any issues yet.Overall I am happy with it so far.

Slight Problems
The trip-Lite as such does what it's supposed to do re giving you 7 extra USB ports, BUT after a short while, my laptop wouldn't boot up, had to reconfigure boot set up, but though that worked, I had to manually click the boot up screen to load / start up the laptop. Took me awhile, but finally figured that it was the Trip-Lite that was causing my problems. I unplugged it from the Laptop and on next start up, everything worked as normal. Can only conclude that this device can only be used / plugged in when computer fully booted up and removed prior to shutting down. Never had to do this with previous non powered laptop Kensington 4 port usb extension.

Provides additional high quality USB ports
I was very pleased with the delivery time to my remote location and excited to see that this unit provided high quality USB ports. Hint: the back ports work well for adding peripherals such as wireless mouse, keyboard, etc. Very happy with the product.
