Reliable, and no plastic taste
I've hiked and run several thousand miles with these Platypus reservoirs, and I love them. They are tough as heck, weigh almost nothing, and there is no plastic taste, whereas most of their competitors' bottles taste horrible. I prefer these simple reservoirs to models that have a big opening with stiff plastic roll bars, because I find that I don't need the big opening -- you are usually filling them from some sort of filter that produces a stream of water anyway. The 1.5 or 2 liter size is perfect for hiking or running, and the handle is useful for hanging the bladder or attaching it to a hydration pack or running vest. One modification I often make is to remove the bite valve and replace it with an on/off valve (also made by Platypus). When exercising hard (climbing or ultra-running), I prefer to be able to drink fast, to having to suck hard on the bite valve to get a small drink. Plus, the valve never, ever leaks, whereas bite valves can and do drip if they get pinched.I also highly recommend the plain Platypus 2L bottles ("Platy 2-Liter Flexible Water Bottle" -- small opening, no tube); buy 4 or 5 of them and you're ready for a big desert trip. They are also very tough, very lightweight, and long-lasting. I've owned them for decades.

Hiking Hydration made Easy
I needed to replace my old platypus bladder after too many years to count. Was glad to have this new version which is lighter and narrower, so it easily fits in my day pack. My only complaint is the clip to attach the drinking tube to my backpack is difficult to use. I will use my old clip.

Great overall luxery item for minimalistic backpackers.
I've been a minimalistic backpacker for about 28 years and when camel bags came out was hesitant to use them. My experience with them have been overall pretty negative on short treks to the point I never felt comfortable using them on my longer trips, plus being the type of hiker that measures his gear in ounces I could never justify the added weight. I've used platypus bags in conjunction with my sawyer filters for about 6 years and have had no complaints. I decided on my most recent 5 day trip to purchase and use this platypus camel bag in an attempt to be able to easily drink more water without having to stop and grab my wate bottle. Overall my experience has been positive. It takes a little while to get used to and I wish the bite valve had a cover. I really wanted to use my sawyer filter inline with this setup, but that would have required me making some modifications I wasn't comfortable with. I wish I would have purchased the 1 Liter bag instead of the 2 liter bag, but that was my own fault. I did have an instance where I didn't screw the valve on correctly and water leaked in to my pack. It wasn't a problem because I use a cubein fiber pack liner. Fits great in my Osprey Exos 48 L pack. I would recommend and buy again.

How did I go so long without this?
I really love hiking, but my husband doesn’t. So this means that I’m usually solo with a toddler in the hiking backpack and my 6 year old at my side. We’ve been trying to get out for a few hikes a week and packing a water bottle for everyone has been annoying to say the least.I’ve never used one of these water bladders before but I noticed that my expensive toddler backpack had a place for one. This was super easy to figure out and setup and I honestly couldn’t even feel it on my back as we hiked for a solid 2 hours. This helped us last longer and kept us moving with a lot less water breaks. And as a bonus this kept my 18 month old entertained as he kept shoving it into my mouth the duration of our hike.

Hoser Performs on AZ Elk Hunt!
Took the Platypus 2L on a 5 day elk hunt in N. AZ. Was in the low 60s despite being mid Nov and was sunny the entire time so went through a lot of water with backpack hunting. Really liked how fast the water flows through the Hose and bite valve. Kept the bladder in the big zipper pocket in my pack. When I put my pack down the bite valve would sometimes hit the dirt (my fault) and surprisingly was easy to clean off. All in all happy with the purchase and happy how it performed in the field.

LEAKS AFTER JUST A FEW USES
I didn’t start using this till late June and most of the use came in August. Probably only used a dozen times or so and it developed a leak. It leaks down close to where you fasten the tube on. When you sit in in your backpack the plastic part the hose is connected to bends under the pressure of its own weight and that is where it leaks from. I place an inquiry to the company over five days ago and have had NO response what so ever. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. The company is all talk but really has NO customer service. Avoid this brand completely they will not back up their products. Heck they won’t even respond to a complaint or request for replacement. I went with a Gregory.

Great Water Bag
Had another Platypus Hydration System(bag and hose) for 15+ years and it is light weight, easy to use. Only reason I bought another one is because the plastic was separating in layers but still holds water.Great product.

It’s the only one!
We purchased this because of the taste-free aspect. It got high praise from my husband who is very bothered by the ‘plastic-y taste’ of other hydration packs we have tried.
