I received the set in perfect packing conditions. However upon testing, my 7 years old boy who is attending the robotic class uses this set told me that there is a servo motor piece not working, it does not move. I was unsure of his comment, I went to check with the robotic class teacher and who told that the piece is really fault.I wrote a short email to Amazon, without a second question, amazon sent me a replacement set with priority shipping. When received the second set, I confirmed all are working well. I was so impressed on amazon's customer service. I have returned the faulty set to Amazon from Malaysia.Back to the set, the pieces are easy to be assembled even my boy who is slower in motor skill can handle with ease. He enjoys playing with the set and always looking forward to go to the Sunday class. I understand from the teachers that they are durable.The only shortfall is missing of the project manual. I believe it will be harder for the young children or parents without the engineering background to maximising the possibility of the set. I myself are clueless about how to play with it.Overall I am happy with the set and super happy with Amazon's service. It is definitely a good beginner set for young children before they proceed to lego based.

We purchased this kit as a gift for our 5 YO granddaughter. She loves building things with Lego's and doing puzzles so we thought this might be the right gift for her 5th birthday. She thinks it's great fun. She is pretty challenged by all of the possibilities that this kit presents. I think that this can be a great parent/child activity for a 5 YO and a very long lived toy for a few years to come. The programming is a little beyond her abilities at this point but the detailed instructions allow her to build and operate several different robots. We live cross country from her and I look forward to another Robo Wunderkind adventure with her when we visit this winter.We had a problem with one of the connector parts. Victoria @ Robo Wunderkind was prompt to respond and send us a replacement part quickly. We purchased the kit in early July and it took about a week for the kit to arrive from Europe. Same was true for the replacement part. Evidently the parts and kits have to clear customs upon arrival to the USA.In a nutshell we're pleased that our granddaughter is learning and having fun!

I really love the idea of the kit, and it seems like they've packed a lot of functionality into some really friendly components. The components seem sturdy, though they're difficult to put together -- you use these connector blocks between that provide mechanical and electrical connection, and those blocks are really hard to remove, as the connections are quite stiff and you have to use their supplied tool to pry them apart and can't do it with bare fingers. I worry about how many insertion/removal cycles they would live through before breaking. It's something of a necessary evil as they have to be stiff to hold the robot together -- those joints provide all the support. I had a hard time getting my five-year-old to understand he has to be careful putting the pieces together and not stress the joints too much, so I think the suggested age range of 6+ is relevant.Now to the bad part. Everything is just really flaky and works on and off. The servo motor works only once in a while -- the system knows it's there (the app has a mode that will show you what components it knows are connected) but it ignores commands to rotate except for once in a while. I see a lot of other reviewers who had trouble with this part. Often times I would plug in another component and the system wouldn't recognize it -- it wouldn't play its chime when plugged in, and the software wouldn't see it. Disconnecting and reconnecting might help, or rotating 90 degrees, or plugging in somewhere else. If you would have an assembled robot that was just sitting there not moving and not being touched, some components would randomly disconnect and reconnect on their own. The light wouldn't work for more than a few seconds at a time. I wonder if the electrical connections between the components are intermittent, or maybe I had a faulty master unit that was just grumpy, or maybe it just fundamentally doesn't work very well.The Android remote-control app was hopelessly buggy. It would barely register any component connections, and the buttons you could add to the control panel to play different sounds would play the wrong sounds. After a bit I gave up and switched over to iOS and had better luck, but still wasn't able to get past the bad hardware. I never even opened up the app that lets you control it via code (it's a separate app from the remote control app, very odd), because I gave up on the whole thing before getting that far.I thought about engaging with their support team and having them send me some replacement components, and it's going to frustrate them when they read this review and see that I didn't, but I decided that I didn't want to run the risk of going outside my return window and end up with an expensive piece of kit that would never work. It seems like the sort of thing that's designed by people who mean really really well but don't have the experience needed to develop a system of consumer electronics/app/toy that can be reliably contract manufactured and sold at scale, and be used by kids every day and continue to work -- that stuff is incredibly hard. This early iteration has promise but is just too rough to actually use.

We ordered the Educational Kit for my 7 year old son. He instantly fell in love. "I'm a coder, Mom!" We quickly followed up by ordering the Advanced Upgrade Kit. He absolutely loves all of the additional features. Everything included in booth kits seems well thought out and sturdy.We considered a lot of the other options out there before purchasing and I'm glad we went with Wunderkind. He is learning and having fun - what better outcome can you have than that?Also, thumbs up to the Wunderkind customer service. We had a small issue and it was resolved quickly and professionally.

I have a (somewhat) nerdy 9yo, who is also addicted to her iPad, so I decided to give this a try. My thought process was – let’s try putting a creative/constructive twist on her electronic addiction. It worked!! She quickly became fascinated by how iPad commands the robot, and the coding process occupied her for a few straight hours. As a heads up, there’s no manual per se in the package, but she got the hang of it pretty quickly and was able to get all creative and “beat the system” as she called it (which basically means adding commands outside of the included set).This is a great toy for learning cause-effect relationship, coding and (big win in my book) keeping those antsy pre-teens occupied.My 3yo thinks these are legos, so he had some fun with it, too. I’ll wait till he’s 6 or 7 and give it a proper try – parts look very durable and I’m sure they’ll last for years.Overall, really happy with the product!

Mit großer Begeisterung habe ich dieses Set entdeckt und aufgrund der vielen positiven Rezensionen für meinen Sohn in der Education Version als Geschenk zu Weihnachten erworben. Dabei habe ich dem Produkt nach gründlicher Recherche auch den Vorzug gegegenüber der Konkurrenz aus LEGO Boost, Dash und anderen gegeben. Um meinem Sohn von Anfang an Guidance geben zu können, wollte ich den Roboter vorsichtshalber einmal ausprobieren.Zum positiven, ich finde das Konzept wirklich klasse für den Zweck, Kinder an Technik und Computerlogik heranzuführen, was in meinen Augen unbedingt unterstützenswert ist. Die Zahl der Bausteine ist etwas begrenzt, aber gerade für jüngere Kinder sicherlich ausreichend und wer mag, kann ja noch mit dem Advanced Paket nachrüsten. Auch besteht die Möglichkeit, Wunderkind-Projekte mit Legoteilen zu erweitern, hierzu sind vier Adapter beigelegt, so dass es viele Möglichkeiten gibt kreativ zu werden.Das Produkt ist leidlich gut verarbeitet, die Bausteine fühlen sich jedoch z.B. im Vergleich zu LEGO oder fischertechnik wenig hochwertig an, sind schwarfkantig und untereinander schwergängig. Die gefühlte Verarbeitungsqualität steht hier m.E. in keinem guten Verhältnis zum recht hohen Preis, dies mag sich zukünftig mit steigenden Stückzahlen verbessern und ist Jammern auf hohem Niveau.Es gibt aktuell zwei Apps, Robo Live und Robo Code. Durch erstere lässt sich der Roboter über das Tablet steuern ähnlich einem ferngesteuerten Auto. Mit letzterer lassen sich graphisch auch ohne Lesekenntnisse einfache Programme schreiben. Das ist für die Zielgruppe m.E. ein super Anfang, wobei nach meinem Eindruck die Möglichkeiten für komplexere Programme eher beschränkt sind. Hier soll es aber demnächst eine neuere App mit mehr Möglichkeiten (unter anderem Scratch-ähnliches Interface) geben - ich hoffe dass diese auch abwärtskompatibel für die bestehende Hardware-Generation sein wird. Überdies gibt es für die "Profis" wohl auch eine Python API, diese wird jedoch nicht aktiv beworben und habe ich auch noch nicht ausprobiert. Die Apps lassen sich leicht auf dem Tablet (bei mir ein iPad) einrichten und verbinden sich rasch über Bluetooth mit dem orangefarbenen Rechenmodul. Nach diversen Firmwareupdates der einzelnen Module geht es dann los.In der Theorie also eigentlich ein super Konzept. Das große "aber" ist leider - wie so oft - die unausgereifte Software. Ich habe jetzt einige Stunden mit beiden Apps probiert und es gibt leider zahlreiche Bugs die einem die Freude gründlich verderben. Dazu zählt, dass Module die erst erkannt werden auf einmal ohne ersichtlichen Grund nicht mehr erkannt werden. Nach einmal aus und wieder einschalten geht es dann häufig wieder, dann aber nicht für länger und es kommt vor, dass dafür andere Module nicht mehr erkannt werden. Das liegt auch nicht an wackligen Verbindungen o.ä., denn die Erkennung ist zunächst gegeben und scheitert dann auch ohne Berührung des Geräts. Anderes Beispiel: während der Servomotor in der Robo Live App (solange er erkannt wird) anstandslos funktioniert, lässt er sich in der Robo Code App nicht ansteuern, das zugehörige Feld speichert die eingegebenen Werte nicht. Auch stürzt das Hauptmodul gelegentlich ohne ersichtlichen Grund ab. Im Ergebnis führen diese Fehler dazu, dass das Hauptmodul häufig neu gestartet oder neu verbunden werden muss, was den Spielfluss merklich stört.Das sind nur wenige Beispiele. Mir graut schon davor meinem Sohn erklären zu müssen, wieso der Roboter, obwohl eigentlich alles richtig ist, nicht das macht was er soll.FazitIch finde es außerordentlich bedauerlich, dass dieses eigentlich vielversprechene Konzept durch die unausgereifte Software für praktische Zwecke kaum mehr benutzbar ist oder jedenfalls sehr viel Geduld abverlangt, die gerade bei Kindern bekanntlich nicht immer stark ausgeprägt ist. Dies gilt umso mehr, als das Produkt nun auch schon einige Jahre auf dem Markt ist und deswegen eine gewisse Reife hätte erwarten lassen. Ich empfinde diese Mangel als praktisch so gravierend, dass ich die 4 Sterne, die ich unter Berücksichtigung der kleineren genannten Schwächen ansonsten gegeben hätte auf nur mehr 2 Sterne reduziere.

Das Robo-Wunderkind-Set bietet Kreativität, Steuerung und Programmierung in spielerischer und unaufdringlicher Weise. Die einzelnen Bausteine haben eine ordentliche, sprich richtige Größe, damit sie gut zu greifen und gut zusammen zu stecken sind.Die für Steuerung und Programmierung notwendigen Apps sind einfach und klar aufgebaut, und nach kurzer Gewöhnungszeit auch schon für die jungen Forscher (unserer ist 6) recht einfach zu bedienen. Eigenes Programmieren fällt nach rund 4 Wochen noch nicht ganz so leicht, sollte sich aber über die Zeit geben, da bekanntlich noch kein Meister vom Himmel gefallen ist. 😉Die vorgegeben Projekte wurden schnell umgesetzt und bereits häufig nachgebaut. Der Service ist kompetent, weiß auf fast alle Fragen die passende Antwort und über die Homepage werden schon viele Infos angeboten.Rundum ein richtig tolles Produkt um dem Nachwuchs auf kreative Art einen Einstieg in die Programmierung zu bieten. Es gilt zu hoffen, dass das Interesse noch lange anhält, da die Ergänzung durch weitere Bausteine die Möglichkeiten auf Dauer garantieren.

Es gibt so viele Möglichkeiten! Und wir hatten keine Vorkenntnisse und haben durch die betgelieferte App alles einfach verstanden.Ich bin so begeistert, dass ich den Robo Wunderkind letztens mit in der Kita hatte und habe ihn den Kindern und Erzieherinnen gezeigt. Alle waren hellauf begeistert und wünschen sich jetzt sehr, so einen Roboter für die Vorschulkinder einzusetzen. Sie überlegen ihn jetzt über den Förderverein anzuschaffen und im Rahmen von Regio-Pädagogik einzusetzen, weil er die digitale Welt sichtbar und verstehbar zum anfassen für alle macht. Und Jungs - die oft in der Vorschule nicht ruhig sein wollen und das Malen von Mandalas und Buchstaben blöd finden - können mit Robo zuhören lernen und sind wie gebannt von ihm. Absolut passend schon für Vorschulkinder.Material:Die Module wirken sehr stabil und sind aus angenehmem Material. Sie riechen zum Beispiel nicht komisch und sind robust. Sie sind auch schon runtergefallen und alles funktioniert noch weiter (das passiert leider ab und an mal, wenn unsere wild sind.). Die mitgelieferten Apps sind absolut kindgerecht und toll - sie stürzen nicht ab und bieten einige Lernprogramme.Erfahrung 5 Jährige:Es ist auch sehr erstaunlich, wie bedacht und vorsichtig auch schon die 5 Jährige den Robo anfasst und mit ihm redet. Er ist für sie wie ein Spielkamerad, mit dem sie Neues entdeckt. Gestern hat sie mit ihrer Freundin einen Rollroboter gebaut, den sich die Kinder hin- und herschieben. Und wenn ein rotes Licht leuchtet darf man ihn nicht anfassen. Erst bei grünem Licht. Die Mädels haben gequietscht vor Lachen und hatten solchen Spaß. Ich hatte das nur einmal mit ihr gemacht davor und schon hat sie es ganz alleine ihren Freundinnen erklärt und mit ihnen gespielt. (Im Video oben hört ihr, wie Stolz die Kleine war, als sie ihn zusammengebaut hatte.Erfahrung einer 11 Jährigem:So einen Roboter müsste es im Unterricht geben in der Schule meiner Großen - dann würde Programmieren lernen dort mehr Kinder begeistern. Jetzt kommen alle Freunde immer zu uns und spielen hier damit. Sie haben letztens einen Roboter gebaut, der die Zimmertüre bewacht, so dass sie merken, wenn jemand reinkommt. Tolle Erfindung! Da es auch die Möglichkeit gibt sehr komplizierte Sachen zu erfinden, wird es nie langweilig und das Spielzeug wächst quasi mit den eigenen Erfahrungen mit. Man entdeckt immer neue Möglichkeiten, je mehr man versteht. Das ist wichtig, sonst wird es schnell langweilig und liegt in der Ecke. das haben wir mit vielen anderen Spielsachen. Aber nicht mit Robo - er kommt immer wieder neu zum Einsatz. Kein Ende in Sicht an Spiel- und Lernoptionen.Zusammenfassung:Der Bausatz fördert so viele Dinge, wo soll ich anfangen: Robo Wunderkind bringt doppelt Lernspaß/ zuerst beim Zusammenbauen der einzelnen Module. Hierbei kann jedes Kind selbst entscheiden, was es bauen möchte - kreativ nach eigenen Ideen - und dann beim Programmieren mit der App. Das modulare System ist meines Wissens einzigartig. Programmieren & Tech wird hier anfassbar und begreifbar! Kinder verstehen so viel: dass Strom fließen muss, damit Technik funktioniert, dass sie einen Plan und eine eigene Idee umsetzen können und selbst Erfinder werden und dass Roboter programmieren eigentlich ganz einfach zu verstehen ist.Besonderheiten:Mein Mann arbeitet in der IT und er hat richtig Spaß mit der Tochter zusammen zu bauen und ihr zu zeigen, wie programmieren und Roboter bauen geht. Ohne den Roboter war das für unsere Tochter nicht so interessant. Da hat sie meinem Mann nicht zugehört. Aber mit diesem Roboter haben beide etwas zum zusammen Erfindungen machen. Das finde ich eine tolle Gelegenheit gemeinsam etwas zu machen Vater - Tochter.Auch mir als Mutter, die Lego toll findet, macht es immer wieder Freude zu sehen, was alles aus den Modulen zu bauen geht. Und die Kinder erklären mir dann, wie es geht, wenn ich es nicht sofort verstehe. Sie bauen Autos auf denen ihre Lego friends herumfahren, oder ein Haus, aus Lego in dem Robo wohnt. Obwohl es also ein Technikspielzeig ist, fördert es absolut die Kreativität. Durch die Kompatibilität mit Lego verschwimmt die Welt der Spielsachen mit der der Technik - das ist wahnsinnig faszinierend!Manche Freunde unserer Kinder fragen sofort wenn sie zu uns kommen: können wir mit dem Roboter spielen - biiitte! Das ist sehr schön. Es fördert das gemeinsam Spielen und entdecken und kann aber auch alleine, wenn das Kind krank im Bett liegt, genutzt werden - das hat uns letzte Woche bei einer Erkältung sehr geholfen und mehr Spaß gemacht, als CD hören :-)Eine absolute Kaufempfehlung egal ob zum Geburtstag oder zur Einschulung oder zu Weihnachten!

I recently got this robotics kit for my godchild (7-year old) and she been just hooked on it! She loves to play with Lego, so a decision to purchase Robo Wunderkind after I came across a YouTube video review about it, was a no-brainer for me. She has already one robot set at home, but it doesn’t come even somewhat close to what Robo Wunderkind has to offer in terms of hardware, software and the learning experience. I am a computer scientist in my job and a maker in my free time, so I have a very good understanding of what a good coding and robotics toy should be. I have to say that Robo Wunderkind has exceeded my expectations.A little bit about the experience:The setup was extremely easy: the little book inside of the packaging supports users in the first steps, and the tutorials in the Robo Code app provide all essential knowledge needed for building and coding.The kit is very versatile and you can build an unlimited amount of stuff with it (especially due to Lego compatibility).It is sturdy enough to withstand being dropped on the floor (happened already as kids can sometimes get wild when they are playing). The battery life is excellent and allows to play for hours non-stop. The Bluetooth connection between the apps and the robot is perfectly stable.The software is excellent and everything works like a charm. It is easy to use, very interactive and provides plenty of programming options. All basic concepts of coding (such as conditional statements, loops, triggers and so on) are represented in the Robo Code app, and they were easy to understand even for a 7-year old. Robo Live app is the second accompanying app, which you can use to remote control the robots. She especially likes to switch from one app to another and to combine fun remote controlling with serious coding tasks within their play sessions.Conclusion: this is an excellent investment in your kids’ knowledge and an awesome intro into robotics and basic programming. As an IT person, I can’t think of anything better than Robo Wunderkind to get children into technology early on.

An excellent concept. Needs some refinement in terms of connectivity and software. The two apps need to be combined to prevent Bluetooth disconnect/reconnect issues. Connecting elements need software updates but that’s very quick. The connections may possibly break fairly rapidly due to the brittle plastic. Integration with Lego is a nice idea.I think it’s quite expensive overall, but for a 6-9 year old it’s ideal. For under 6 definitely not.Some written instructions would be useful rather than switching between apps on the iPad.
