You can use the bar and have 4 or 8 lights (top and bottom) if you really need to. OR, you can forget the bar and just mount one light to the top. That is very handy. The only negative: the bolt where the top bar attaches is round, so the set screw does not hold well. I have 4 par lights, two small disco lights and a chauvet dj swarm 5fx and haven’t had any issues (about 45lbs), although I’d recommend some sand bags if you plan to add more weight and will be using it outside. Reason I’m giving it a 4star and not 5 is because of the fasteners, I feel they could have been made a bit sturdier. While it’s only happened once, I did found myself tightening it to a point where it lost all its tension and if I wasn’t holding the upper section it would have come down fast with all my lights on it so I’d keep an eye out for that, id also wouldn’t recommend for moving head lights.
