Harris Stay-Brite Silver Bearing Solder & Stay Clean Liquid Flux Kit

Brazed 1" .050 wall chrome moly tubing in to a socket in 1/2" 1018 steel. If you are reading this review you don't know what Harris silver solder is. Basically it is the best in quality and ease of use but if all you have is a decent propane torch. Silver solder is your only choice to join metal and Harris gives you the best chance of successfuly joining two parts. This is expensive and a get what you pay for thing. You can buy more for less elsewhere. But you can't buy ease of use and, versatility and reliability from anyone else but Harris. There is enough here to get what ever task you need to get done. If you need more for a large job, then you know already and aren't reading the reviews to know how well this works.

I struggled to find a solder/flux combination that worked well in attaching carbon steel to carbon steel. Although the hardness of the solder may be on the low side it worked fine for my application. I used a 200-Watt iron, and a much smaller iron would probably work because I had to be careful not to get the piece too hot. I was soldering 1/16 music wire to 1/8 music wire using .025 copper wire to bind the pieces together. I sanded the steel wire and then with a paper towel I used the flux to clean the sanded areas. Just prior to soldering the joint I put several drops of flux on the joint. Again, the biggest mistake is getting the piece too hot. If the solder melts on the opposite side of the piece you are soldering, take the iron away. If the solder quits melting, then apply more heat. This job was for the upper wing supports on a radio-controlled biplane. I fear a lot of folks when using the copper wire see that the solder flows great on the wire and it looks like it is a good joint, but the solder has not adhered to the music wire and therefore they have a week joint. My only complaint was that the price seemed quite high for such a small amount of solder. There is plenty of flux for 5 time the amount of solder provided.

I have use this incredible solder for 20 years. I believe the flux is it a great part of it where are you.I recommend very lightly cleaning the solder with some type of abrasive like sandpaper just before use it.but this little trick seems to make a big difference to I put a liquid flux .....on the solder .....and of course on the Metal to be soldered. Please be extra careful with this liquid FLUX ... It is very easy to get it on your hands and can be quite unpleasant so wash your hands frequently or keep a damp rag it near you to get it off your hands quickly ... I am also much more cautious about the fumes (Eyes+throat) when I am soldering I keep a fan going and will try to do the soldering outdoors.Another trick I might share is if you do an extremely precise soldering you can use a black sharpie pen to prevent the solder from going where the black sharpie pan has marked the metal.

Been a while since I used this product but I went online and found a lot of good videos.Still about the best way to attach a guard to a knife blank.Seller was very helpful when product was a little bit late to deliver (USPS problems as usual!)

Iam missing part of my order

It works for a couple of joints. The solder is small. I am not use to using that size solder wire so it was a little new to me. I am going to buy the bigger roll and cleaner. I do not feel confident in my connections I made with this kit. However they pressure tested fine. So product is good for a very limited amount of uses, like maybe 4 to 6.
